Sweden, 14 July: Simply Sweden is advising travellers planning to visit Scandinavia this winter to book now, before availability runs out. The specialist tour operator says that while most of us are focusing on our summer holidays, this winter's Arctic adventures are already being snapped up.
“We've only a few departures left for some of our top winter trips,” says Chris Graham of Simply Sweden. “In remote regions, the availability of the best guides, accommodation and even flights, soon becomes extremely limited.”
Among the exciting new experiences on offer from Simply Sweden this winter is the chance for guests to drive their own teams of huskies through the wilderness of the Finnmark Mountain Plateau in northern Norway. Husky Expedition – Finnmark is a three-day adventure beneath the Northern Lights, which travels to the vast snow deserts of the Øvre Anarjohka and Stabbursdalen national parks, where the Sami herd their reindeer. From £1,755 per person.
Aurora borealis stars in the three-night break Malangen Fjord, also in northern Norway. Snowmobile safaris, ice fishing and snow-shoeing are on the action-packed itinerary at the wilderness camp here. From £925 per person. A three-night whale-watching trip to see the humpbacks and orcas that fill the waters around the Norwegian city of Tromsø in winter, Whale-watching Tromsø, is also new from Simply Sweden this winter. From £950 per adult, £650 per child.
Limited places are available for the one-off trip That Christmas Feeling, 19-23 December. Unlike many Christmas market excursions, this four-night trip to the annual winter market in the historic old town of Luleå, offers an authentic taste of the festive season Swedish style. Plus guests will also learn winter skills, such as how to light a fire in the snow, as well as enjoy husky rides through the Boreal Forest in search of the Northern Lights. From £1,650 per adult, £995 per child.
And looking forward to February half term 2016, Simply Sweden has opened bookings for its popular four-night Family Activity Holiday, which has just one departure date on 13 February. A total tech detox break that ventures deep into Swedish Lapland, guests are based at the cosy Brändön Lodge in the heart of the snowy forest. Families can enjoy authentic winter skills sessions, a snowmobile trip over the frozen Bothnia Bay, a husky-driving excursion and a Northern Lights snow-shoe walk. From £1,595 per adult, £995 per child.
