Bolivian Capital La Paz Launches First Cable Car

Journey Latin America

Specialist tour operator, Journey Latin America, announces the launch of the first cable car – the highest in the world - in Bolivia's administrative capital, La Paz. The new transport system began operating this week carrying passengers from El Alto (where the airport is located) directly to the city centre. Two more lines are due to open this year.

La Paz, set in a deep canyon, is dominated by the snow-capped peak of Mount Illimani. In addition to the cable car ride, travellers can also enjoy exploring the colonial centre, indigenous markets and bargaining with the ambulant street vendors in felt bowler hats and colourful shawls.

Product manager for Journey Latin America, Isabelle Mazille says 'The views of the snow-capped Andes are majestic as the cable car glides out of La Paz, reaching 500m up to El Alto – the world's highest capital at 4,150m.'

To coincide with the launch of the cable car, Journey Latin America is offering a 5-day holiday in Bolivia as a competition prize which includes a stay in La Paz and Lake Titicaca. Closing date to enter is 6 May 2014.
