Degas: The Complete Sculptures Boise Art Museum Boise, Idaho June 19, 2004 - September 18, 2004

Degas: The Complete Sculptures is comprised of 73 sculptures created by the French Impressionist artist Edgar H. G. Degas (1834-1917) from the collection of the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo, Brazil - one of only four complete sets of the artist's bronzes in existence. This stunning exhibition features bronzes cast from the artist's original wax and clay models of his celebrated bathers, horses, and dancers. Among them is the beloved sculpture The Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen. In the 1870s, Degas emerged as a prominent member of the Impressionists, a group of artists whose work captured a spontaneous, visual impression of a scene through light, color, or motion. Degas was an acknowledged master at portraying the figure in motion. He often experimented with unusual angles and unconventional, off-balance compositions to create his personal, and increasingly abstract, sculpture. This exhibition is organized by Joseph S. Czestochowski, International Arts, Memphis.
