Bluesmart

October 20, 2014 New York, NY- Today, Bluesmart launches their first product, the world's first smart carry-on suitcase Bluesmart, on Indiegogo. The suitcase has a built-in battery charger that allows you to charge your devices up to six times, with easy-access, protected compartments for laptops and electronic devices.

The Bluesmart app syncs with the suitcase and online travel services to provide the user with reports, smart notifications and alerts.

Tomi Pierucci, Co-founder of Bluesmart explains, “We came up with the idea for Bluesmart after suffering a couple of bad experiences with our luggage, when airlines forced us to check bags only to have them mishandled or lost. We realized that with all the amazing technology available today, we could do better. Suitcases haven't seen much innovation in decades, so we decided to design a suitcase for this century.”

Bluesmart's patent-pending technology utilizes micro-sensors, actuators and a microcomputer with GPS that communicates with smartphones via Bluetooth to track and communicate data to the users. This technology allows features such as:

  • Digital Lock: users can forget about keys or combinations and lock and unlock the suitcase from the phone app. The proximity sensors automatically lock the bag when it is separated from the user.
  • Digital Scale: users are able to see the exact weight of the suitcases on the app and whether it's approved by the airline to carry on.
  • Distance Alerts: users are notified on their smartphones via SMS when they are leaving their suitcases behind, avoiding losses or thefts.
  • Location Tracking: with GPS technology Bluesmart tracks the location of the suitcase and helps you find it when lost or re-routed.
  • Trip Stats and Data: users are able to see trends in their travel habits (miles traveled, airports visited, time per state/country) and sync with other services for smart notifications and reminders.
  • Battery charger: users can recharge their electronic devices up to six times while on the go.

“More than 25 million bags are lost or mishandled by airlines every year1. This causes great pains to travellers all over the world. With the advent of microcomputers and the Internet of Things we have the opportunity to prevent these problems while providing a smarter option to travellers of the connected generation” explains Brian Chen, co-founder of Bluesmart. “We are looking for the support of the community via Indiegogo because we want to see this product begin to help others as soon as possible and with their support we can make it happen.”

The Bluesmart Carry-on will be available on Indiegogo for the early adopter price of $195.

Size Specs:

  • 21.5” x 14” x 9” (approved by all airlines to carry on).
  • 8.5 lbs (3.8 Kg).
