Halong Bay, Vietnam, June 2026: Leading Vietnamese cruise operator Bhaya Cruises has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable tourism and marine conservation following the successful completion of its annual environmental initiative, Clean the Bay 2026: Green Promise – For the Bay We Love, held on May 28, 2026, in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed destination of Ha Long Bay.
The initiative brought together more than 95 volunteers, including tourism industry partners, local community members, environmental advocates and Bhaya Cruises team members, to participate in a large-scale clean-up effort aimed at preserving one of Vietnam's most treasured natural landscapes.
The campaign delivered a significant environmental impact, with participants collecting 617 kilograms of waste from just a 2-kilometre stretch of the bay. The waste removed included 223kg of plastic debris, 190kg of discarded fishing nets, 172kg of polystyrene foam, and 32kg of other waste materials, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing marine ecosystems and coastal environments.
Hosted aboard the Au Co cruise vessel, the day featured a series of hands-on conservation activities including kayaking and tender boat clean-up operations, waste sorting, environmental impact recording and educational sustainability sessions designed to raise awareness about responsible tourism and ocean conservation.
Since its launch in 2017, Clean the Bay has evolved into one of Ha Long Bay’s most recognised tourism-led environmental initiatives, creating a platform for collaboration between the travel industry, local communities and environmentally conscious travellers. The annual campaign reflects Bhaya Cruises' broader sustainability strategy, which integrates responsible environmental practices throughout its operations while encouraging guests and industry stakeholders to become active participants in conservation efforts.
"Clean the Bay is more than an annual event for us; it represents a long-term commitment to safeguarding the natural heritage of Ha Long Bay," said Mr Nam, CEO of Bhaya Cruises. "The results achieved this year demonstrate the power of collective action. Through this initiative, we hope to inspire travellers, tourism partners and local communities to recognise that even small actions can make a meaningful difference in protecting our oceans and natural environments for future generations."
As sustainability continues to influence traveller decision-making and shape the future of tourism, initiatives such as Clean the Bay showcase how tourism operators can play a leading role in environmental stewardship while creating positive and lasting impacts in the destinations where they operate.
The event concluded with a sunset gathering celebrating the achievements of participants and reinforcing the shared commitment to protecting Ha Long Bay's unique biodiversity, scenic beauty and ecological health.
Through ongoing conservation programs, responsible operations and community engagement initiatives, Bhaya Cruises remains dedicated to ensuring that Ha Long Bay continues to inspire travellers from around the world for generations to come.
