Best Western has signed two new hotels formerly operated by Accor's Mercure group, presenting the rebranded Tasmanian properties as the BEST WESTERN Hobart and BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston.
The hotels take Best Western's total number of Tasmanian properties to seven, with several more Tasmanian hotels to join in the future.
Rob Anderson, Best Western Australasia Chief Executive said the hotels are ideally located in the heart of each city's CBD precincts and will undergo a series of refurbishments.
"We're thrilled to welcome these two hotels in Hobart and Launceston to our growing hotel family," Mr Anderson said.
"The BEST WESTERN Hobart has a large refresh planned, with all 140 guest rooms to receive a soft refurbishment and its eight meetings and events spaces to be completely refurbished and due for completion in the second half of 2013.
"We will also add new in-room furnishings and amenities at the 116-room BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston, with these refurbishments planned to begin as early as next week.
"Both hotels already have modern amenities and facilities so we will look to mainly improve the current onsite restaurants and dining areas; update the conference facilities and ensure the most up to date wi-fi services and in-room services are available in both hotels."
Tourism Tasmania* has reported a record number of visitors to the state.
"For the year ending March 2013, there were 931,100 visitors to Tasmania, up 10 per cent from 845,800 for the previous year," Mr Anderson said.
"If these numbers are any indication, then people will need more quality hotel options to choose from when travelling around Tasmania."
Located in Hobart's city centre, the BEST WESTERN Hobart provides easy access to many of Hobart's key leisure attractions, including Battery Point, Salamanca Place and the Hobart waterfront. The 140-room hotel has its own onsite features, including a stylish food and beverage area housing Embers Restaurant and Embers Cocktail Bar & Lounge; plus modern in-room technology products and popular guest amenities. The hotel has eight events spaces, the largest being The Goulburn Room which can accommodate up to 300 people for cocktail and theatre-style events.
Located in Launceston's city centre, the BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston is a 15 minute drive from Launceston Airport and a short walk from the main shopping, retail and dining precinct. With its distinct amenities and personalised guest services, the hotel offers 116 comfortable guest rooms. The contemporary onsite Snappers Restaurant specialises in Tasmanian produce and wine. Locals and guests can also mingle in the hotel's Tram Bar, which features an original No. 11 Tram and is the hotel's most vibrant meeting place. Guests can choose from five types of well appointed standard rooms, superior rooms, family rooms, privilege rooms or deluxe suites for the perfect stay. Two conference rooms are available to book, each accommodating up to 150 people.
