Kings Day, Amsterdam, 27 April 2018

Held in Bunol, an hour outside of Valencia, La Tomatina is Spain's annual tomato throwing festival, and is one for the bucket list. The main day kicks off when contenders try and knock off a ham from a pole, then the mass food fight, involving 20,000 participants begins. Ticket numbers have been capped this year so it is best to buy your ticket in advance.

Stay in beautiful Valencia to save money at this festival. There are regular trains to and from Bunol on festival day and it is worth staying a little longer after to explore the city.

Crop Over Festival Barbados, August 6th 2018

Crop Over Festival in Barbados is one of the most lively and colourful festivals around. The event was originally held to celebrate the end of the sugar cane season and this once in a lifetime festival is still pretty sweet. Celebrations take place over a number of weeks but the main event is the Grand Kadooment parade on August 6th, and sees lots of dancing, music, sequins, feathers and music trucks come to the streets.
