The World record attempt takes place over the weekend of the Brixham Pirate & Shanty Festival, which runs from 04 to 05 May. The Mile O'Pirates Record Attempt will be held on the harbourside on Sunday 5th May. Brixham already holds the record at nine tenths of a mile but the Pirates are looking to see if they can complete a full mile (around 2,000 pirates). The attempt is open to everyone young and old as long as they come dressed as a pirate - there's no need to register.
Over the weekend there will be re-enactments, a skirmish on the Golden Hind, a fancy dress competition, sea shanty and folk music at venues around the town and of course the record attempt itself. It’ll be grr-eat fun for mums, dads, grrr-andparents and grrr-andchildren. http://www.brixhampiratefestival.co.uk/

Pirate activities this summer holiday
Every Thursday from the end of July through August, Brixham’s streets will be besieged by pirates as the Brixham Buccaneers put on a show for visitors. Even if you can’t make the World Record attempt in May, your kids can still participate in Pirate parties and activities this Summer.
The Golden Hind forms a central point for activities in the harbour and cries of ‘shiver me timbers’ can be heard from passing pirates. The harbour comes alive with music, sea shanties and even belly dancers, and children can have their faces painted or their hair braided.
Dastardly pirates regularly receive a soaking in the stocks as wet sponges are hurled with abandon. There’s even a regular competition to see who’s come in the best costume and who can make the loudest argggh. Altogether it’s a day of great escapism; a perfect day for the kids.
