Sweeton Manor, an outstanding 16th century granite-and-thatch manor house sleeping 18 hidden deep in Dartmoor National Park, is now available through Helpful Holidays. The historic house with its many barns and stunning indoor pool is set in four acres of spectacular natural grounds in the West Webburn River valley at Ponsworthy, three miles from Widecombe-in-the-Moor.
Inside original beams and charming period features have been cleverly adapted to create a superb home for modern living with eight bedrooms and six bathrooms. Entered from the terrace, the hall leads into to a vast living/dining/kitchen area. Comfy sofas around a woodburner and a large refectory table make this a great place to cook, eat and relax; there's also a library with a splendid Bösendorfer grand piano.
The oldest part of the house features original oak floors, doors and beams; here there's a second sitting room with a large inglenook open fire and a smaller kitchen/dining room with a circular dining table for six. Three bedrooms and one suite, with its own little conservatory and door to the garden, are located on the ground floor. There are a further four bedrooms above including the nursery, which has a single with a pull-out truckle bed and space for a cot.
A magnificent beamed and vaulted barn behind the house is now home to the stunning indoor pool (39ft x 20ft), which is tiled with blue marble and surrounded by limestone mosaic. There's also a separate steam room, while big windows provide lovely views across the moor and doors open to the garden. A second thatched and detached barn is equipped with a competition-standard snooker table and chesterfield sofas and there's even a small barn for wine storage.
Another large detached barn has been converted into a very stylish business centre with oak floors and good lighting. Upstairs is a huge first floor conference room seating 30 around a cherrywood table, and more by arrangement. There's also a second meeting room and office downstairs; facilities include Wi-Fi, a projector and computer.
A week's stay at Sweeton Manor starts from £3,320 per week (£184pppw); a concierge and made service are available (extra) and dogs are permitted to stay in the kitchen area only. For more details or to book a stay at Sweeton Manor call 01647 434063 or visit www.helpfulholidays.com
