Chester, 24 November 2020: Shop local online this Christmas, that's the message being spread in a campaign just launched by Visit Cheshire (www.visitcheshire.com).
Now browsers can connect with the best of Cheshire's producers and providers from the comfort of their own home via special pages on the Visit Cheshire website. It's filled with suggestions about the best local places to snap up gifts from jewellery to garden accessories to gin.
Shopping hubs on the Visit Cheshire site include the Chester and Cheshire Gift Shop, which stocks everything from unusual face coverings decorated with Chester landmarks to eye-catching coasters depicting some of the animal residents of Chester Zoo. Other towns around the county are also featured, such as The Lymm Online Marketplace and Treacle Market Traders of Macclesfield.
Detailed inspiration is offered in the Ultimate Chester and Cheshire Gifting Guide with ideas for everyone from “creatives” to “the youngest ones”, and All I Want For My Chester Christmas is… with its ultimate gift suggestions for devoted fans of the city.
Pay It Forward Gift Vouchers are also available via the website. This initiative by local businesses across the county enables gift givers to allow those trickier friends and family to craft their own gifts. Vouchers range from short breaks at hotels such as The Mere near Knutsford, to birds-of-prey experiences at Cheshire Falconry near Northwich.
There's the Chester Gift Card, too, available in denominations from £25 to £100. The unique shopping card can be used in participating businesses, from shops to hotels, across the city.
Plus, the team has devised “An Exceedingly Cheshire Christmas Day Luncheon”, a fantasy meal that reveals how to create a festive feast out of locally produced delicacies. Tasty ideas include a Tatton Estate Venison stew with Tatton Brewery Black Porter for a dark and rich gravy, and mince pies made with Mrs Darlington's Marvellous Mincemeat with Brandy and topped off with Backford Belles' Christmas pudding ice cream.
