Bay of Fires Lodge Walk and Cradle Mountain Huts Walk in Tasmania Introduce New Guest Indulgences

Cradle Mountain Huts and Bay of Fires Lodge Walk

Come and find us on the Tourism Australia stand

(April 2013) The award winning Bay of Fires Lodge Walk and Cradle Mountain Huts Walk in Tasmania will re-open for the walking season year from 1 October, 2013 to 1 May, 2014 with some exciting new guest offerings.

Following their recent win in the Health and Wellbeing category at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards, the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk will offer its guests some well-earned rest and relaxation with the opening of a new spa in October of this year.

The iconic four-day/three night Bay of Fires Lodge Walk is ranked as one of Australia's most recognised walks and follows Tasmania's pristine north east coastline through the Bay of Fires Conservation Area. The walk enables visitors to experience some of Australia's most distinctive flora and fauna in one of the most picturesque places on earth.

The new eco spa at Bay of Fires Lodge will reflect the natural environment of Tasmania's spectacular north east coastline and offer guests a little indulgence upon arrival at the Lodge.

Guests spend two days at the Lodge, the only building on 20km of outstanding coastal wilderness spectacularly located on a hilltop 40 metres above the ocean.

The spa will offer breathtaking views with an outdoor deck and inside lounging spaces, extensive wellness and wilderness library, and a small spa boutique.

Treatments will vary from massages, facials and body treatments with a special focus on rejuvenation. Natural, chemical-free spa products will be used in all spa treatments. A therapeutic bath experience will also be available, offering the perfect prelude to any spa treatment using natural ingredients to cleanse and restore.

The spa reinforces the Walk's commitment to providing guests with the ultimate walking experience – combining fresh air and fitness, and spectacular scenery with a touch of style. This includes fabulous food and wine that walkers have come to appreciate on the trip.

Well known Tasmanian chef, Daniel Alps will again have his stamp on the new season menus and will be training the guides to use the best of local Tasmanian produce and other seasonal ingredients.

Another special treat introduced just last season allows for guests to stop at renowned winemaker, Andrew Pirie's new winery, Apogee Tasmania, near Lebrina.  Credited for his award-winning wines at Ninth Island and Piper's Brook Vineyards, Andrew will be offering guests the chance to try his new sparkling wine variety and some delicious canapés before returning to their Launceston accommodation or the airport.

Voted the “Best Adventure Tourism” experience by readers of Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine, the six-day Cradle Mountain Huts Walk treks through the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park along the Overland Track in small groups of no more than 10 with two highly experienced guides.

Taking in a diversity of landscapes including sedgeland moors, glacial mountain lakes and rainforests, craggy peaks, button grass plains and alpine meadows, walkers will often come face to snout with wombats, echidnas, wallabies and Tasmanian Devils all making the area their home.

The next season will include the popular “Climb Every Mountain Adventure Walk introduced in 2012 for those looking for something a little more challenging.  This walk follows the same path but will allow all guests on the departure to climb the mountain peaks that are found along the way.  These include Cradle Mountain, Barn Bluff, Mt Oakleigh and Mt Ossa providing some of the most outstanding views in the country.

Short walks of only four days will continue to be offered on the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk next season for time starved travellers – especially good to help them fit into an international itinerary.  These are on limited departures.  The four-day itinerary stays at the first three huts along the track – Barn Bluff, Pine Forest Moor and Pelion and then leaves by the Arm River Track.

Each evening's accommodation is in one of the private huts nestled away in this remarkable Park. They are exclusively for guests of the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk and provide a haven at the end of the day with hot showers, drying rooms for damp boots, and cosy heating, along with a welcome hearty three-course dinner and fine Tasmanian wines.

Also new for the 2013/2014 walking season is the launch of a new umbrella name - The Tasmanian Walking Company, for both the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk and the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk. The new company will allow for further expansion and potential new product development, but more importantly will tell guests and future holidaymakers that the two walks are owned and operated by the same company, offering the same high levels of service and quality.
