Bangkok, Thailand (May 20, 2014) – Backyard Travel, the online boutique travel agency specializing in unique and insider tours to Asia, has just revealed details of a new China tour giving travelers the chance to learn about ancient Chinese traditions and visit the stunning emerald green rice terraces of the 'Dragon's Backbone'.
This guided two-day tour starts with a visit to the village of Huangluo, where travelers are taught about the fascinating traditions of the women of the Red Yao hill tribe, who have the longest hair in the world, on average an incredible 1.7 meters!! The women grow their hair that long as they believe that longer hair will mean greater fortune in life.
Travelers stay in the beautiful mountain village of Ping'an, which is surrounded by stunning countryside, and home to the largest indigenous tribe in China, the Zhuang. From there on day two, their local Backyard Travel Guide will take them on a walking tour through the incredible terraces of the 'Dragon's Backbone'. The terraces reach an altitude of over 1000 meters and cover an area of over 60 square kilometers. The verdant green rice terraces offer some stunning panoramic views of the area and travelers will learn about the history of these beautiful rice fields and how they work today.
“The Longhsheng region of China is a veritable wonderland for lovers of ancient cultures and natural surroundings,” said Backyard Travel's General Manager Maeve Nolan. “This short tour will give travelers the opportunity to see the stunning natural beauty of the Dragon's Backbone' as well as learn about the unique traditions of the Red Yao and Zhuang hill tribes.”
