�Back to the Future� Main Street Station Restoration Project

Main Street Station opened in 1901 with the ceremonial arrival of the first train. The last train left the station in 1975. Today, what has for years been Richmond�s most visible historic architectural landmark now has an even brighter future! In its 101st year, Main Street Station will be converted from an icon of days gone by into a multi-modal transportation center for the region with passenger train, bus, taxi and airport shuttle service.

1900 Main Street Station construction begins 2000 Main Street Station restoration begins

1901 Station opens, co-owned by C& O and Seaboard Air Line Railroad 2001 Station reopens to Amtrak passenger service between Newport News, Washington, DC and points north

1958 Station abandoned by Seaboard 2004 Amtrak service originates at station; service increased to 8-10 trains daily

1975 Last train arrives and leaves the station 2005 Additional facilities constructed to integrate bus/trolley, airport shuttle and taxi services
