The baby crocodiles at Vil Uyana (believed to be the first to be born at a nature hotel) are now ten days old.
We have incredible images which are perfect for a photo lead diary of their progression and/or can organise an interview with the incredibly passionate Chaminda Jayasekera – head naturalist at the hotel.
The birth of the crocs is the first recorded in the Vil Uyana's 15 year history and we have high res images of it all - from the mother breaking open the shells, to carrying the babies in her mouth out of harm's way to documenting the baby crocs first week. She chose to make Vil Uyana her home four years ago.
The Crocodile is the only maternal reptile and guests witnessed her sliding along the bank to the eggs (having heard the babies calling from inside the shell) and then gently breaking open the shells before transporting them to safety.
Vil Uyana is a man-made nature reserve with 26 species of mammals, 150 species of birds, 51 species of Butterflies and 35 species of amphibians and reptiles within the grounds. The highlight is Slender Loris, Fishing Cat and Eurasian Otter – all living alongside guests with night-time safaris available where guests are able to lay a camera trap and take home the images of wildlife as a souvenir.
