Field of Light Uluru extended to 2020
Internationally acclaimed artist Bruce Munro's immersive installation, Field of Light Uluru, has been further extended and will now remain in place until 31 December 2020. The award-winning exhibition opened at Ayers Rock Resort on 1 April 2016 and has proven an absolute crowd pleaser for business event clients, creating an additional wow factor for groups.
The solar-powered exhibition, aptly named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku or 'looking at lots of beautiful lights' in local Pitjantjatjara, has more than 50,000 slender stems crowned with radiant frosted-glass spheres over an area the size of nine football fields. The spheres, connected via illuminated optical fibre, bloom as darkness falls. Pathways draw viewers into the artwork, which comes to life under a sky brilliant with stars.
Field of Light can be incorporated into all meetings at Ayers Rock Resort and there are a number of different ways to experience the installation. The Star Pass includes transfers as well as sparkling wine and canapes; A Night at Field of Light dining experience includes transfers and the option to arrive via helicopter or camel, and a Field of Light Sunrise includes return transfers, immersion in the installation and coffee/tea and pastries. Between 22 October and 24 March each year, the Mayu Wiru experience for a maximum of 16 guests combines an exceptional gourmet menu celebrating the ancient flavours of Indigenous Australia with a private escorted tour through Field of Light.
Sounds of Silence 25th Anniversary
Australia's first under-the-stars dining experience, the iconic Sounds of Silence, is celebrating an incredible 25 years of operation this year. Upon opening its 'doors' in 1993, guests from all over the world have embraced the concept of dining in the middle of the Australian desert with magnificent views of Uluru and nothing but the vast expanse of the night sky above.
The experience has remained largely unchanged throughout the last 25 years. Guests arrive to the lyrical sound of the Didgeridoo and enjoy sparkling wine and canapes while viewing sunset over Uluru and Kata Tjuta, a star talk during dinner brings the night sky to life and telescopes are available for closer viewing. Australian ingredients have always featured on the menu and in celebration of the anniversary this year a new menu is being launched that will feature Bush Tucker native Australian ingredients throughout the many dishes on offer.
Sounds of Silence has long been recognised for its place as an important Australian Tourism experience and featured in Tourism Australia's advertisements across the world from the early 1990s. It was also inducted into the Australian Tourism Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Lost Camel finds its way back to Ayers Rock Resort
The boutique-style Lost Camel Hotel will re-open its doors at Ayers Rock Resort on 1 July 2018. With a newly refurbished stylish mix of Aboriginal and urban themes, the hotel is located in the heart of the resort and will offer a great mid-scale option when staying in the Spiritual Heart of Australia.
Originally opened in 2002, The Lost Camel Hotel was transformed to staff accommodation in May 2012 and is now being refurbished as a contemporary and fun accommodation option for the busy resort. The compact studio-style rooms will be decorated in bright colours and crisp, clean whites. Each room will feature a sumptuous King Bed (can be separated into two single beds) and a bathroom with a separate shower and toilet and an open-plan vanity.
Guests will be able to soak up the sun by the hotel's central swimming pool, browse the shops or enjoy a casual meal at one of the cafés located in the resort Town Square just minutes' walk away. Guests will also have access to free in-room Wi-Fi and can take part in the many free daily guest activities on offer.
