The hotel is inviting guests to experience this authentic seasonal pastime which has been enjoyed by New Yorkers since the 19th century.
Guests can wrap-up and get back to basics with a day in the surrounding countryside to enjoy a spot of traditional apple picking followed by a delicious picnic in a secluded spot under one of the apple trees where guests will tuck into an array of gourmet delights including; a selection of charcuterie and cheeses, homemade pâté, assorted breads and truffle honey, Chef's Fall salad, a variety of tempting deserts and a local bottle of Wolfer Estate Cabernet Franc. A chess set is also provided for some post-lunch relaxation.
On returning to the hotel guests can enjoy a well-earned rest while the expert chefs at Kingside work their magic and turn the apples into a delicious traditional apple butter which is the perfect accompaniment to meat dishes, with deserts or simply spread on a piece of toast. The Apple Picking Tradition
Legend has it that apple growers around New York and New Jersey started advertising fruit picking as a fun family activity during the nineteenth century. Farmers then started charging people to enter their fields as the harvest was ending, selling them fruit which otherwise would have perished. Still popular today, apple picking is the perfect way to celebrate harvest time and the changing of the seasons.
