Oh what a delicious holiday moment, when you hesitate in a station, dithering over delightful choices. You might take the express to an unexplored provincial capital, or board a regional train into a landscape where cows clank and vineyards promise cellar doors. You might even take the slow train into beautiful surroundings often overlooked by intercity travellers, and find your writing inspired by snow peaks and look-at-me lakes.

We Austrians are proud that our compact country, so easy to get around, should offer so many diverse pleasures – and things to write about. And being helpful folk, we've come up with plans to make your journeys easier: a variety of short itineraries to lead you around the highlights of various cities and the hidden gems of our most beautiful regions. These don't just tick off big sights but allow you to see Austria like a local, whether you want to write about urban discovery, alpine tours or gourmet-and-wine escapes. What editor or writer doesn't want choice? And if you really can't choose, do them all!
