Nature lovers looking for a home away from home in the Alps, with hiking and biking trails at their doorstep, wellness fans eager to fully relax and rewind, or city explorers looking for a stylish place in the heart of the action - the collection has the right accommodation fit for every type of travellers. Every hotel on the list is unique, but they all exemplify the best in Austrian hospitality.

  • Hotel Der Löwe (“The Lion”) in Leogang has been managed by the Madreiter family for over 100 years. The 4-star superior hotel is popular for its down-to-earth cuisine, adults-only rooftop spa (and separate family spa) as as well as its sustainability commitments.
  • Hotel GUT Trattlerhof (GUT meaning “GOOD” in German) in South Austria's Nockberge region scores with prime access to hiking and biking trails, and a spa. Guests can book “GUTshof” experiences like riding sessions, e-bike tours or explore the region in a vintage tractor or Tesla Y.

Alpine luxury and gourmet hideaways

  • The LaPosch chalet village resort in Tirol unites Austrian tradition with luxury modern amenities. 16 individual units provide 5-star comfort and carefully selected services, from the complimentary bubbles upon arrival to the hiking backpack and 20 minute taster massage.
  • Also in Tirol, Schlosshotel Kitzbühel, a contemporary castle 10 minute walk from the village centre, scores with a 3,000 m² SPA MOMENTUM spa luxury, three restaurants serving everything from Tyrolean to Japanese cuisine, and hiking trails and a 9-hole golf course at its doorstep. 
  • Hotel Arlberg Lech is a coffee house turned luxury hotel that has been hosting guests since 1956. While their main restaurant serves a six-course Chef's Choice Dinner, think family recipes with Asian and Mediterranean touches, the more casual La Fenice dishes up Italian delights.

  • Burg Hotel Lech has a restaurant serving five- to six course menus with Mediterranean and Austrian delights while their Lechtaler Stube also offers French haute cuisine. The family-run hotel houses one of the largest wine cellars in Western Austria with some 60,000 bottles.
  • The slightly more casual 4-star Hotel Gotthard, also in Lech, combines luxury with authenticity and cosiness with modernity. Run in the third generation of the Walch family, it has hiking trails, Austria's highest golf course and scenic bike routes on its doorstep and an in-house restaurant with home-brewed beers.

Luxury spa and wellness retreats

  • AQUA DOME Tirol Therme Längenfeld makes the perfect base for Ötztal visitors looking for some feel-good luxury amidst the mountains. It houses Tirol's largest spa with 12 indoor and outdoor pools including the 3 trademark futuristic floating pools, 7 saunas and treatment options.
  • Surrounded by more than 250 three-thousanders, the 5-star Das Central in Sölden combines traditional Tyrolean lifestyle with a contemporary twist. Wellness fans will love the Summit Spa with a 17 m long outdoor infinity pool overlooking the rooftops and a sun terrace with whirlpool. 
  • Mountain Resort Feuerberg sits on an alpine plateau with views over the whole of Carinthia. Their wellness sanctuary boasts a natural swimming lake, an award-winning (and very Instagrammable) infinity pool, 10 regular pools, 11 saunas and 16 relaxation oases.
  • Luxurious Das Ronacher in Bad Kleinkirchheim, also in Carinthia, has been winning guests over with its first-class service and family charm for generations. The mineral-rich thermal water of the hotel spa aims to support relaxation and ease muscular problems and joint complaints. 
  • Nesslerhof in Großarl, SalzburgerLand, scores with its in-house wellness oasis, featuring a 25-m long indoor pool, a natural swimming lake, an outdoor saltwater pool and a cold water pond, as well as 5 saunas and steam baths, and more than 100 longevity treatment options. 
  • Surrounded by the Leoganger Steinberge mountains in SalzburgerLand, Hotel Krallerhof champions its "Regeneration & Longevity by Krallerhof", unique in Austria. Its "ATMOSPHERE by Krallerhof" spa features a 50-metre outdoor infinity pool, saunas, an ice grotto, and more.
  • Naturhotel Forsthofgut, also in Leogang, is a sustainable farm-turned luxury hotel housing Europe's first forest spa, an adult-only oasis with an old-wood sauna, herbal and steam paths, as well as an onsen-style and a 25-m-long sports pool and a separate family area. 
  • Perched at 1,100 m above sea level on the Bartholomäberg in Montafon, Vorarlberg, Hotel Fernblick (meaning far-reaching views) lives up to its name. The panoramic Sky Pool, supported by 20 m stilts, takes wellness to new heights with front-row views of the surrounding mountains.
  • The Marienkron Retreat & Health Resort in Burgenland's Lake Neusiedl region is considered one of Austria's top health retreats, specialising in gut health and overall wellness. It offers everything from phytotherapy and Kneipp therapy to fasting, and mainly vegetarian cuisine.

Castle-style hotels right at the lakeshore

  • Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden sits on the shores of Lake Wörthersee in Carinthia and is a celebrity hotspot. It scores with luxurious rooms, breakfast in the castle ballroom, their Aquapura Lake SPA (three indoor and outdoor pools, sauna and steambaths and exclusive Beach Club.
  • Schloss Seefels, at the same lake, oozes 5-star superior luxury. The heated lake pool is open all year round, using bioenergy to heat the water to around 28°C even in winter. Come summer, the hotel beach fills up with loungers and the hotel's own lake restaurant turns into the place to be.
  • Romantik Hotel Im Weissen Rössl at Lake Wolfgangsee - known from the operetta and film of the same name - is a landmark in the Salzkammergut region. Wellness fans will love the heated lake pool and an extensive spa (with saunas, steam baths and separate family area).

Hotels for city breaks in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck

  • Hotel Harmonie in trendy Servitenviertel lies off the beaten path, yet just a few minutes' walk from the Ringstrasse. It owes its name and concept to the former Harmonie Theatre. Soloists from the Vienna State Opera's ballet have transformed every room into an art experience. 
  • Hotel Sans Souci is a sparkly, luxury place around the corner from MuseumsQuartier, housing a private collection of world-famous Roy Lichtenstein artworks and an impressive 20 m pool lit by crystal chandaliers. Breakfast comes with a complimentary glass of champagne.
  • The serviced apartments of Singerstrasse 21/15, with a kitchen, bathroom, dining area and walk-in wardrobere, are the epitome of urban living in the heart of Vienna, just 300 m from St Stephen's Cathedral. They are suitable for both short- and long-term stays.
