Snake + Herring Wines and renowned Australian chef Aaron Carr open six seasons-inspired restaurant in the Margaret River Region

The long-awaited passion project of former Vasse Felix head chef Aaron Carr and Snake + Herring Wines has been brought to life, after the launch of Yarri Restaurant last week.

The restaurant, located in Dunsborough in Australia's South West, features an indigenous-inspired menu focused on locally sourced ingredients.

Yarri will honour nature, seasonality, and the South West - its people, produce and place,” says chef Aaron Carr. “Our menu will be based on the six seasons of the Noongar people and country and all our ingredients will be sustainably sourced from the land and from the many small producers we've worked with over decades.”

The restaurant, created by Carr and Snake + Herring Wines co-founders Redmond Sweeny and Sal and Tony Davis, features a chef's 'theatre' bar for degustation dining; communal tables and more intimate banquette seating' and a 'sexy' bar zone.

The cuisine will be a pared back version of the contemporary, produce-driven food that Carr is well known for. The wine list, curated by Sweeny and Davis, will feature all 20 of the Snake + Herring wines; some bespoke wines made only for Yarri; and a tight, frequently updated selection from the region and beyond.

UK celebrity chef Marco Pierre White heads west for the IGA Taste Great Southern

British chef Marco Pierre White, best-known to Australian viewers as a judge on Australian Masterchef, will be in Western Australia in March for IGA Taste Great Southern.

Often referred to as the first celebrity chef and the godfather of modern cooking, White was the youngest chef ever to be awarded three Michelin stars.

White will be making his first visit to the Great Southern region of WA, as part of the IGA Taste Great Southern's Albany Wine & Food Festival, just one of around 50 events being held as part of the festival.

On March 17, he will appear at the Albany Food and Wine Festival and attend the Fervor x Three Anchors dinner on Saturday, March 17. The eight-course degustation focuses on local and native Australian ingredients prepared by Paul Iskov.

White joins top Indonesian chef Chandra Yudasswara and former Masterchef contestant Justine Schofield, along with Anna Gare, Paul Iskov, Don Hancey, Sophie Budd, Kenny McHardy, Russell Blaikie, Stuart Laws, Scott Brannigan, Vincent Lim and Dan Wegener.

Field of Light immersive art installation to pay homage to the Anzacs

The creator of Uluru's Field of Light installation will illuminate the Avenue of Honour, located at Albany's Mt Clarence, from October 2018. Bruce Munro will pay homage to the Anzacs using 13,000 shining spheres, which mark the last sight of home for the 41,000 troops who departed from Albany for the Great War.

The installation is part of the many commemorative initiatives that will be occurring across Australia as part of the Anzac Centenary.

The Centenary of Anzac 2014 to 2018 is Australia's most important period of national commemoration. Marking 100 years since our involvement in the First World War, the centenary is a time to honour the service and sacrifice of our original ANZACs, and the generations of Australian servicemen and women who have defended the nation in wars, conflicts and peace operations in the past 100 years.
