After the sell-out success of Aurora Expeditions' new land-based expeditions to Nepal in 2013, the adventure company has announced four new 'Classic Everest' treks departing in 2014. Two new treks along one of Bhutan's oldest trails have also been added to the program.
The 'Classic Everest' trek through Nepal has been a migration route of Sherpa's for over a thousand years, and covers spectacular highlights of the Everest region. Each trek will be led by Aurora's climbing legend, Tashi Tenzing, also the grandson of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, who completed the first ascent of Mt Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953.
A maximum of 16 trekkers will enjoy this relatively gentle trek with an average of 3 to 4 hours walking per day. They'll explore the breathtakingly beautiful Himalayas where Sherpa culture still thrives and gain insights into Sherpa culture and the incredible history of the Tenzing family. Guests will meet family members and have the opportunity to visit Tashi's grandfather's house in Thame. This small community of Sherpa's is renowned for being the strongest in the region and collectively they have climbed Everest over 1000 times. Accommodation comprises of six gorgeous lodges owned by the Tenzing family, providing an authentic experience with a high standard of mountain accommodation.
The 13 day Classic Everest trek package includes four nights accommodation in Kathmandu (2 nights pre and post trek), Kathmandu sight-seeing tour, and the 9 day trek which includes all meals, accommodation, gear package including kit bag and walking poles, scenic helicopter flight from Kingde to Lukla, porter and guiding services. Prices start from US$5,250 per person, twin share. Treks depart Kathmandu on 15 April 2014, 29 April 2014, 13 May 2014, and 23 September 2014.
In Bhutan, the 'Druk Path' is a moderate trek brimming with scenic beauty and cultural highlights. From Paro to Bhutan's capital, Thimphu, hikers will wind through virgin forest and along breathtaking ridges, visiting beautiful mountain lakes and isolated settlements. Each night on trek will be spent camping at yak herder camps and other various sites along the way.
The complete 12-day tour includes the 5-day 'Druk Path' trek plus additional days each side to experience the culture and highlights of Bhutan. A visit to the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery, an ancient sacred Himalayan Buddhist site, offers an enlightening experience. Post trek, we witness the lush Punakha valley, site of the celebrated Buddhist fortress of Punakha Dzong, 3120 metres above the Paro valley.
The 'Bhutan Cultural Tour & Druk Path Trek' includes seven nights accommodation in hotels, all meals, airport transfers, all road transfers, all sight-seeing in Bhutan with an English speaking guide, and Bhutan visa. The 5-day trek includes all meals, camping equipment, gear package including kit bag and sleeping bag, porter and guiding services. Prices start from US$4,999 per person, twin share. Treks depart Paro on 24 March and 7 April 2014.
