Atlanta set to open $1.5 billion in hospitality product in 2014

ATLANTA (June 6, 2013) – More than $2.5 billion in development is slated for Atlanta over the next five years, and $1.5 of that will open to the public in 2014.

Streetcars Come to Downtown Atlanta
Construction continues on the $70 million Atlanta Streetcar project, which will transport visitors from the convention corridor downtown to the east side of the city, passing the city's top attractions and winding through in town neighborhoods. The first tracks were laid March 2013 and the project is expected to begin service by mid-2014.

National Center for Civil and Human Rights Opening in 2014, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights will provide an unparalleled experience for visitors, solidifying the city as the global gateway for exploring human rights issues. The $96 million, 30,000-square-foot Center will provide the first venue in the world where visitors can learn about the history of the Civil Rights Movement, contemporary human rights movements and how they are connected. The National Center for Civil and Human rights will open adjacent to the World of Coca-Cola and Georgia Aquarium and will include a meeting and performance space for artistic and educational programming. There are three phases in the project, with phase two and three planned to add additional exhibit space and an auditorium.

Atlanta to Have College Football Hall of FameThe College Football Hall of Fame will join the other world-class attractions in Centennial Olympic Park in 2014. The $66.5 million, 90,000-square-foot facility will provide college football fans a shrine for recognizing the game's top players and coaches, and will provide even the non-fan visitor with a first-class entertainment experience. The attraction will feature 30,000 square feet of exhibit space, including a football field that can be purposed for events. The facility will bring some of the game's biggest names to Atlanta for annual enshrinement ceremonies, speaker series, corporate gatherings and other events. Construction begins January 2013 and is expected to take approximately 18 months.

Ponce City Market to Open
Ponce City Market, a historic Southern icon, will reopen in 2014 after undergoing a $180 million live-work-play makeover from Jamestown Properties. The two million square foot structure will house a variety of dining, retail, office space and high-end apartments designed to emerge as Atlanta's next great urban experience. Situation along the Atlanta BeltLine, the Ponce City Market is poised to become the hub between Midtown, Poncey Highland, Old Fourth Ward and Virginia Highland. The development is meant to be similar to Chelsea Market in New York.

Porsche Builds One-of-a-Kind Customer and Driver Experience Center in AtlantaAtlanta will be the new home for Porsche's North American headquarters and North America's first Customer and Driver Experience Center. The center, which will feature a test track, restaurant and shop for Porsche-branded goods, will allow employees and visitors to see, hear, feel and experience what it's like to drive a Porsche automobile. Scheduled to open in 2014, the organization chose Atlanta for its $100 million investment due to the accessibility into the city. The site will be located adjacent to the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal.
