Aspen swells with talent during spring and summer, as world-class athletes move to town to train on local trails and cultural organisations call in the big shots for art exhibitions, lecture series, special events and festivals.
2014 is a particularly exciting year. The Aspen Art Museum will be opening its new 30,000-square-foot Shigeru Ban-designed building to the public on 9th August with a free, 24-hour celebration. Founded in 1979, the Aspen Art Museum (AAM) is at the forefront of the International contemporary art scene, its central mission is to programme the most innovative, intriguing, and important art of our time. The meteoric growth of AAM, a non-collecting institution, in recent years has seen a 110% increase in annual visitor and its re-opening will be a major highlight in the Contemporary Art calendar internationally.
In hotel news, just in time for the 2014 summer season, renowned designer Holly Hunt has renovated four suites at the iconic The Little Nell taking inspiration from the West and featuring stone fireplaces with blackened metal as well as bronze chandeliers. Aspen's historic landmark hotel, Hotel Jerome continues to win plaudits following its extensive renovation last year and The Sky Hotel remains at the centre of Aspen's see-and-be-seen scene.
