Acanto restaurant at Dorchester Collection’s Milanese property, Hotel Principe di Savoia, is delighted to announce its participation in the 2013 ‘Solidarity Artist Plate’. In line with the recent trend of art you can eat, the executive chef has re-worked a recipe from the hotel’s menu in the 1930’s which was then used as inspiration for an art installation by Monica Scardecchia and Gianfranco Maggio.
From now until 4 July, the veranda of the Acanto restaurant will exhibit "Album - Memories Preserved" – a display of nine individual jars created by the artists Monica Scardecchia and Gianfranco Maggio. The notion of ‘canned memories’ is represented by historical images of the hotel inside the jars.
This installation was inspired by executive chef Fabrizio Cadei’s dish, jaune chicken in aspic, garden vegetables and green sauce, and was created using a recipe in the hotel’s archives.
For every dish ordered, one euro will be donated to “Pane Quotidiano”, a historical Milanese charity association, founded in the early 1900’s to help families in need: food is distributed to more than 2,500 people every day.
The ‘Solidarity Artist Plate’ (or ‘Piatto Solidale d’Artista’) is a nationwide, truly innovative concept. It is an opportunity for a creative exchange of experiences between two distinct protagonists of the art and gastronomic worlds: the artist and the chef. A non profit initiative in its 13th year, it is organised under the patronage of the Lombardy Region, Province of Milan, Milan City Council and the Expo 2015 Commission.
