Argentina Becomes Cox & Kings' Second Best-Selling Country In South America
Argentina is a booming destination at the moment for Cox & Kings, the world's oldest travel company. Bookings for the South American country are up by approximately 65% compared to this time last year, and sales so far in 2004 have already exceeded figures for the whole of 2003.
Lucy Nicholson, Cox & Kings' Product Manager for Latin America, attributes the rise in popularity to the excellent current exchange rate. "People definitely seem to be taking advantage of the favourable economic conditions. Whilst still a relatively expensive country to travel to, once there our clients are enjoying lower prices, good wines and fantastic food at some of the best restaurants in South America, which were often prohibitively expensive in the past."
Whilst Peru is still Cox & Kings' best-selling country in Latin America, Argentina has now leapfrogged Ecuador, Mexico and Brazil to become the second most popular country. "Most first-time visitors to South America still choose Peru, but the most popular destination for a second visit is now Argentina rather than Brazil," said Nicholson. "It's good news for the country; increased tourism revenues will help the Argentine economy, and prices favour the tourist."
