April 11, 2023 (New York) – For the first time in history, the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023™ will head Down Under, when 32 nations will go head-to-head across Australia and New Zealand to take out the grand title, from July 20 – August 20, 2023.

 

April 11th marks 100 days until kick-off and Australia is gearing up to welcome fans from around the world to its five host cities and beyond. For those traveling down under to enjoy the fierce competition, Tourism Australia released the Ultimate Australian Adventure Travel Guide, with tips for the best places to stay, play and watch FIFA Women's World Cup 2023™.

Below find excerpts from the new guide from each of the host cities – Adelaide/Tarntanya, Brisbane/Meeanjin, Melbourne/Narrm, Perth/Boorloo and Sydney/Warrane.

 

Adelaide/Tarntanya

A metropolis of tiny bars and mouth-watering eateries, vibrant festivals and Instagram-worthy hotels, Adelaide/Tarntanya is South Australia's hip capital set amongst thriving parklands and gardens. Those who venture just beyond the city limits will find more than 200 cellar doors, and the Fleurieu Peninsula, known for its Mediterranean ambience less than an hour's drive away.

 

Where to stay

  • Vibe Hotel Adelaide - The new Vibe hotel in South Australia opened its doors in the 'Paris end' of Adelaide/Tarntanya's Flinders East district earlier this year. The 18-storey hotel will feature 123 luxurious guest rooms, a pool deck, spa, sauna and plaza.
  • Hotel Alba Adelaide - Recently opened this month, Hotel Alba is the latest boutique hotel to grace the streets of South Australia's capital, offering a resort-like lifestyle right in the heart of Adelaide/Tarntanya.
  • Sofitel Adelaide - This new luxury option is right in the heart of Adelaide/Tarntanya's city centre. Book for its chic french design and world-class restaurant Garçon Bleu.
  • Sequoia, Adelaide Hills - A 15-minute drive from Adelaide/Tarntanya's CBD, this intimate luxury lodge is nestled right in the heart of the stunning Adelaide Hills. Sequoia comprises of fourteen luxury sustainably-designed suites boasting panoramic views of the hillside, with spring-fed stone hot pools, an infinity pool, new day spa and valley rim campfire amphitheatre.

 

Adventures to book

  • Discover Adelaide/Tarntanya from new heights at the historic Adelaide Oval with the RoofClimb experience where you'll be able to spot the stunning coastline and countryside of surrounding South Australia - the 2-hour tour can be booked for either day time, twilight or at night for totally unique experiences. Whilst at the Oval, sport fans can take time to visit the Bradman Collection and learn about legendary South Australian cricketer Don Bradman who's widely known as the greatest cricketer of all time.
  • Head to Adelaide/Tarntanya's inner-city aerial adventure at TreeClimb Adelaide and complete one of the thrilling treetop courses. Situated in the beautiful Parklands, just a short walk from many of Adelaide/Tarntanya's city sights, this is a fun activity in nature where you don't need to jump in a car or on public transport.
  • To witness the full expansiveness of the Barossa Valley, book a Barossa Helicopters tour to see it all from above. Journey over the Southern Barossa Valley where you will see the Whispering Wall, and fly south over the Big Rocking Horse at Gumeracha, Mount Lofty and Adelaide/Tarntanya before landing right out the front of The Lane's cellar door, where you'll be gifted a picnic box of unique cheeses and matching wines to take to any of the picturesque spots in The Lane Vineyard.
  • Plan a trip to Monarto Safari Park, an hour outside of Adelaide/Tarntanya in the Murraylands Region, to get close to more than 50 species of exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles. With a shiny new visitor centre on site, grab a coffee or get some lunch in the cafe and look out on stunning views over the park.

 

Where to watch

  • Hindmarsh Stadium – Hosting local and international matches since the 1960s, Hindmarsh Stadium is a venue made for football, located on Adelaide/Tarntanya's easily accessible city fringe. With a capacity for 15,000 people, the stadium is located just minutes outside the city centre and fans can jump on a free tram to get there.
  • Festival Plaza - A newly redeveloped hub for arts, culture and entertainment, Festival Plaza is the ideal location for fans in Adelaide/Tarntanya to come together and support their nation throughout the World Cup.

 

Brisbane/Meeanjin

The Sunshine State's capital city, Brisbane/Meeanjin is packed with food, art and culture. Dive into the River City's eclectic arts scene, shop in hip inner city neighbourhoods or take a trip to the beautiful islands across the bay. Only 90-minutes from Brisbane/Meeanjin, get a taste for the countryside in the Southern Queensland Country region.

  • Jump on one of the many Brisbane River Cruises, from sunset cruises with dinner, to high tea options by day, there's even a boat that will take you straight to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where you can get up close with these beautiful creatures.
  • Book a thrilling climb up Brisbane/Meeanjin's Story Bridge with Story Bridge Adventure Climb, taking in the full 360-degree panorama of Brisbane/Meeanjin and its surrounds in this 2-hour experience. Whether you choose the popular twilight tour, an epic climb at dawn or the unique full moon climb, adrenaline junkies can add 'The Cantilever Lean Out' or 'Walk The Plank' experience to their booking.
  • The Gold Coast is just an hour's drive from Brisbane/Meeanjin city centre so it's perfect for a day trip! Once on the Gold Coast, take to the waves on an epic surf experience at the aptly named Surfers Paradise beach with Go Ride A Wave, where you can hire a board or take part in one of their daily surf lessons.   • Brisbane Stadium – Nicknamed 'The Cauldron', Brisbane Stadium opened in 1914 and offers state-of-the-art facilities to over 52,000 people at a time. The stadium is home to major concerts, Rugby League and Rugby Union matches. Close to Brisbane/Meeanjin's city centre, anyone with a game ticket can jump on a train or bus for free to get to the stadium.
  • South Bank Parklands - Known around the world for its beautiful green space, bustling events program and incredible dining, South Bank is Brisbane/Meaanjin's go-to lifestyle and cultural destination, where fans will be able to enjoy live matches and music.

 

Melbourne/Narrm

As well known for its world-class restaurants and captivating museums as for its edgy street art and live music scenes, Melbourne/Narrm brims with culture and has an events calendar teeming with world-class sporting and cultural festivals to boot. Drink a cocktail on a rooftop, uncover the stories of urban Aboriginal culture or discover a wealth of art-filled alleyways when in this welcoming city.
