Apple Core Hotels Offers Five Moderately Priced Hotels in Prime Manhattan Locations

Apple Core Hotels

Apple Core Hotels owns and operates five Manhattan-based hotels -- Red Roof Inn Manhattan, on 32nd Street west of Fifth Avenue; the smoke-free Comfort Inn Midtown, west of Sixth Avenue on 46th Street; Super 8 Hotel Times Square, on 46th Street off Sixth Avenue; the landmark La Quinta Inn Manhattan, on 32nd Street west of Fifth Avenue; and Ramada Inn Eastside, at 30th Street and Lexington Avenue.

Since 1993, Apple Core Hotels, owner of more than 20 hotels in the tri-state area, has broadened its strategy to include the purchase and rehabilitation of distressed midtown hotels and office buildings, some with turn-of-the-century pedigrees and landmark Beaux-Arts facades. The company operates the properties in collaboration with major nationwide hotel chains. The companys new focus has been spearheaded by Chief Operating Officer Vijay Dandapani, a graduate of Cornell Universitys School of Hotel Administration, who brings with him a decade of top-level hotel management experience.

Restoration is particularly gratifying, says Dandapani, because it can be done without cutting corners and still costs much less than new construction. We can restore the warmth and beauty of earlier styles, provide the amenities and business facilities that travelers demand today, and still come in at extraordinarily competitive rates.

Collectively, the companys properties enjoy an average occupancy rate of more than 90%. Occupancy has been facilitated by Apple Core Hotels global marketing program, which includes a worldwide network of exclusive agents, and an easy-access centralized booking system linked to major airlines and travel agents. All Apple Core Hotels properties offer complimentary continental breakfast; complimentary hi-speed, wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) service; well-equipped fitness centers; access to complimentary business centers with fax machines, copiers and computers with Internet access. Apple Core Hotels provides conference rooms for small and medium-sized meetings at several properties.

The groups signature array of in-room amenities includes: free hi-speed Internet access, cable television with pay-per-view movies and video games, wireless Web TV, telephones with data port and voice mail, coffee makers, irons and ironing boards. The modern bathrooms are equipped with marble vanities and hair dryers.

Red Roof Inn Manhattan The opening of the Red Roof Inn Manhattan in June 2000 marked Apple Core Hotels first office-building conversion and Red Roof Inns entry into the New York hotel market. The public spaces of the $23-million, 171-room hotel occupying a 17-story former office building at 6 West 32nd Street, were designed by Hyun Kim of HK International Design. Kim transformed the mixed-use building into a contemporary hotel in close proximity to Manhattans fashion district. The hotel features a large breakfast room, fitness center, a lobby lounge and bar as well as a fifth-floor meeting space to accommodate corporate functions.

Comfort Inn Midtown Located on West 46th Street, just steps away from Broadway and Rockefeller Center, the Comfort Inn Midtown is the first-and-only, completely smoke-free hotel in New York City. For travelers with a serious aversion to smoke or smoke allergies, the 79-room hotel has been thoroughly disinfected from deep cleaning the carpets, drapes and bed spreads to disinfecting phones, coffee makers and hair dryers. For the business traveler, a small business center and a meeting room, which accommodates 30-40 people, have been placed in the rear of the lobby. The hotels fitness room and breakfast room are also located in the lobby.

Super 8 Hotel Times Square Fresh from a multi-million dollar renovation, the Super 8 Hotel Times Square, the only one in New York City, opened in 2002 on 46th Street, in close proximity to Fifth Avenue shopping and the theater district. The 1903 buildings ornate facade is adorned by a rococo array of Corinthian columns, statuary and gilt trim. The lobby was completely redone and provides many comfortable seating areas. The new 46th Street Cafe offers cocktails and light snacks in an intimate, sky-lit setting on the second floor. A granite staircase leads down to the breakfast room, fitness center and a 15-person conference room. Among the 206 guest rooms are nine spacious family suites, featuring two separate rooms, full-sized closets and two large-screen televisions.

La Quinta Inn Manhattan Opened in December 2002, the La Quinta Inn Manhattan is located in close proximity to the Jacob Javits Center, Madison Square Garden, Macys and the fashion district. Formerly The Aberdeen and Best Western Manhattan, the hotel, built at the turn of the century in what was then New York's entertainment capital, completed a $2.5 million renovation in June 2003. The building is a wonderful example of Parisian-inspired architecture, which was extremely popular in the late 19th Century. The 182-room hotels ornate red-brick/white-stone/black-iron Beaux-Arts facade was designated a city landmark in 2001.

A complete business center and a new fitness center featuring top-of-the-line aerobic equipment and Nautilus machines make this property a viable -- and pleasant -- choice for business travelers. Sky Bar, an indoor/outdoor rooftop bar, offers cocktails, entertainment and a light menu, along with a great view of the Empire State Building towering above.

Ramada Inn Eastside Built in 1905 in neo-classical style and converted by Apple Core Hotels in 2002, the Ramada Inn Eastsides re-pointed, rose-brick-on-white-stone facade overlooks a beautiful corner at Lexington Avenue and 30th Street. In the wainscoted lobby, a veined granite reception desk faces a long wall of glassed-in bookcases. In the rear, potted plants and topiaries line a narrow walkway leading to a fountain and bordering the charming outdoor garden of the neighboring Italian restaurant. Many of the 95 guest rooms provide a fine view of the East River and city skyscrapers.

The hotel provides a modern business center, a spacious breakfast room, and a fitness center with Nautilus and aerobic equipment. Apple Core Hotels Apple Core Hotels five Manhattan properties offer superb value, thanks in large part to the low cost of renovation relative to new construction. All five properties offer central locations, architectural and decorative beauty, and an array of thoughtful amenities for less -- often much less -- than comparable hotels in Manhattan. New York has rarely offered visitors so warm and affordable a welcome.
