Almost 70 choirs of all ages and nationalities are in the line-up for the biggest event of its kind in Europe – the largest in the Festival's twelve year history - with more than 60 concerts, workshops and celebrations in 50 venues right across Cornwall running from April 29 – May 4 2015.
“Our Seventh Festival is attracting more interest than ever from people wanting to join the celebrations,” says Festival Chairman Bruce Taylor, “and with ever more foreign choirs signing up we've had to increase the number of concerts, particularly at Truro Cathedral. It's all very exciting and it's wonderful proof that the male choral tradition is flourishing right across the globe.”
Amongst the unforgettable highlights of the last biennial Festival was an impromptu performance on St Michael's Mount by the Czech Boys Choir – whose angelic voices delighted and amazed day-trippers to the island.
Sights and sounds like this will again be found across Cornwall from Bude to Land's End and Torpoint to Porthleven when rousing voices will be heard in iconic locations like the Eden Project, Trebah Gardens, the Minack Theatre and, for the first time, Caerhays Castle.
Choirs from the New World will be joining around fifteen hundred singers in Cornwall – with other voyagers including Russians, Lithuanians, Swiss, Spanish, Estonian and German as well as those closer to home from Wales and, Scotland and Cornwall itself.
Singers of all ages will be performing throughout five song-filled days to more than 40,000 people. Information on all choirs and events can be found at www.cimvcf.org.uk along with tickets which can also be purchased from the Hall for Cornwall Box Office or via www.hallforcornwall.org.uk.
Cornwall, as one of the world's great holiday destinations, provides a huge pull for the choirs, their entourages and visitors alike with the Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival bringing around a million pounds into the local economy. Visit Cornwall has full details of Festival events along with places to stay and things to do through its website www.visitcornwall.com
“So many of the world's Male Voice Choirs have their historical roots in mining communities – many of which originated in Cornwall,” says Festival Director Peter Davies. “The wonderful sound they make is always stirring and uplifting and I cannot wait to hear them brought together again for our Seventh world-great event.
“But we are also looking to the future of male singing by deliberately increasing the involvement of young singers with youth choirs coming from Cambridgeshire, Warwickshire, Kent and Cornwall as well as overseas.”
The evenings hold some serious singing business as the Festival includes four International Gala Concerts, 21 regional gala concerts as well as Europe's largest Male Choir Competitions, during which twenty five choirs from across the world will vie for prize money, cups, certificates and kudos.
In a rousing finale to the 2015 Festival the Trelawny Male Voice Choir, made up of singers from across Cornwall, will join choirs from all over the world in a mass celebration of the male choral tradition.
