As a community, Anaheim is banding together to help those in need. Major stakeholders in the city are not only being visible and accessible within our community, but they are also serving as valuable resources. Together, Visit Anaheim partners are playing a significant role in the city's short-term and long-term recovery needs. Between donating supplies and food, to sharing messages of hope, our partners are uniting to show support for the city that they call home.
Chef Bruno Serato,
through his organization Caterina's Club, has been feeding children since 2005. His non-profit feeds more than 5,000 underprivileged children every night through organizations like The Boys & Girls Club. With the doors of his restaurant temporarily closed, Serato and his cooks decided to mobilize their efforts and have already
distributed 910 pounds of pasta meals and 3,640 pounds of uncooked pasta for children to take home to their families.
With stores being inundated with worried shoppers, several families were having difficulty finding some of the essentials. The Honda Center and the
Second Harvest Foodbank of Orange County stepped up to create a
drive-thru food bank, and in one day, was able to provide 4,000 bags of food to those in need. Each bag contained essentials including potatoes, apples, and non-perishables. A few days after the drive-thru, The Honda Center, the
Anaheim Ducks®, and the Angels collectively donated additional supplies like non-perishable food and toilet paper.
Not to be left out, the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, ART (on behalf of Anaheim Transportation Network) and Visit Anaheim teamed up to deliver a bus full of surgical masks to first responders at Anaheim Fire & Rescue. Mayor Harry Sidhu was on site to accept the donation of 1,500 masks so that emergency crews can safely service our residents in need.
In response to hospitals in need and while Disney® Parks are temporarily closed, Disney® has donated 150,000 rain ponchos to MedShare, a humanitarian aid organization, after nurses discovered it would prolong the use of personal protective equipment. Disney® Parks also donated 100,000 N95 masks to French hospitals and $3 million in-kind donations worldwide. Disney® Resorts have also recently donated 100,000 medical supplies for use in French hospitals as well as 270 tons of food to local food banks.
With some Anaheim hotels on hiatus, the JW Marriott wanted to show Anaheim some love by lighting a heart in some of their windows ― a simple message we could all use right now.
