WHAT: The American Thoracic Society (ATS), an international society of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep clinicians and researchers, will hold its International Conference May 17-22 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This is the first time that ATS will meet in Philadelphia.
The conference attracts more than 13,000 pulmonary, critical care and sleep professionals and features more than 400 sessions, 5,500 scientific research abstracts and clinical case reports on topics including allergy/immunology, behavioral science, environmental and occupational health, infectious disease, and pediatric pulmonary, critical care, and sleep.

WHERE: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th and Arch streets (plus various locations throughout Philadelphia) Conference media highlights include:
• Two free events (open to the public) for lung disease patients
The Meet-the-Expert segment will give lung patients an opportunity to discuss the latest in research, clinical trials and clinical care with experts on many different lung and airway diseases.

The Breathing Better forum is open to lung patients and their families and will feature prominent pulmonologists from around the globe.

• ATS medical tours for conference attendees
A tour of the Penn Lung Center will include the proton therapy facility and the hyperbaric chamber.

This small-group tour will focus on the pulmonary, critical care, and sleep facilities and programs at CHOP.

Small, docent-led tours of the legendary Barnes art collection will highlight the art collection and Dr. Barnes.

PRESS DETAILS: The ATS press room will feature work stations with computers, notebook hook-ups and internet access. Registered journalists will have access to news releases detailing important research findings being presented at the meeting and a schedule of press conferences, which will be held in room 110 of the Convention Center. Scientific and clinical experts in respiratory, critical care and sleep medicine will be present during briefings and press availabilities to answer questions or provide background information.
