America West Airlines' Education Foundation Awards Record Amount In College Scholarships

Phoenix, Arizona-- America West Airlines (NYSE:AWA) announced today that its Education Foundation has awarded a record $118,300 in college scholarships to dependents of America West employees in pursuit of higher education. The 91 students receiving college scholarships reside in 13 states throughout the America West route system and were chosen for their academic excellence, co-curricular activities, leadership in the community and the recommendation of a principal or counselor.

"With the phenomenal success of the 11th Annual Education Foundation Golf Tournament and the generous donations from our employees, we are thrilled to award a record amount in scholarships this year," said C.A. Howlett, senior vice president, public affairs, "America West is proud to support our employees and their families by providing these future leaders with the opportunity to pursue their academic endeavors."

The America West Airlines Education Foundation seeks to support the quality of life and aspirations of the people in the communities served by America West. Since its inception, the Education Foundation has donated nearly $1.5 million to educational programs and scholarships that support education initiatives across the airline's route system.
