Amazing Lazio

Cottages to Castles

Where else could you ....... Scuba dive on Monday and hit the snowy peaks on Tuesday, wander the parkland and lakes Wednesday and by the weekend throw a coin in the Trevi fountain to ensure your return?  Where else but Lazio ............

Lying in the centre of Italy and bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea, Lazio is a land of contrasts; from snow-capped peaks, lush green parkland, deep lakes and warm seas, and with an ancient story to its historic architecture and archaeological treasures, it's got something for everyone. So take your pick from our top 5 to do list ...........

  1. At its peak:  The region's peaks offer some fantastic hiking, cycling and climbing excursions with some of the best views in Italy. Ski lovers will hit the peaks in Terminillo or Ciampo Staffi. Top tip:  when packing your bag for the day, pop on your sun-screen as temperatures can reach mid 30's in the height of the summer on those peaks.
  2. Get wet:   The beautiful Tyrrhenian coastline offers up some great sea-side villages and towns such as Gaeta, Sperlonga, Pontina Archipelago & with the islands of Ponza & Ventotene. Top Tip:  Pop on your mask and go scuba-diving & explore Lazio's under-world.
  3. Take a bath: The Romans were a clever bunch and amongst other fantastic inventions they created the thermal baths which can still be experienced and enjoyed today in Rome, Tivoli & Viterbo. Top tip: take a day to enjoy the ancient traditions & combined with the state of the art facilities in one of the many spas in the region.
  4. Getting back to nature: Lazio is rich in lush green hillsides, lakes, trees and parkland with two large national parks; Circeo National Park & Castelli Romani.  Top tip:  take time out to visit Villa Borghese in the heart of Rome, an oasis of parkland with its Borghese Gallery of artistic masterpieces.
  5. And finally: These artistic beauties must appear on your to do list if not once but twice: the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Trevi fountain, Spanish steps of Trinita dei Menti, Bernini's 16th Century colonnade, San Pietro Basilica and Michelangelo's The Last Judgement within the Sistine Chapel. Outside of Rome, Tivoli prides itself on the Renaissance Palace of Villa D'Este and Villa Adrianna once home to the Emperor Hadrian, both are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
