Travelers want convenience. Travelers want choice. And most of all, travelers want the best price. They can get all three through a new partnership of the Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council and Texas Legacies, the outdoor epic theater in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. One toll-free call to 877-58-TEXAS or an on-line visit to www.visitamarillotx.com or www.epictexas.com and a traveler can book a hotel or motel room, purchase admission to a variety of attractions and receive referrals for airline and rental car reservations, all at the best price possible. This is a big development for Amarillo visitors. The folks at Texas Legacies have been offering this service to their guests for a couple of years and it made sense to team with them instead of re-inventing the wheel, Jerry Holt, Vice President of the Amarillo CVC, said.
These will be customized packages. One visitor may include Texas Legacies, the Cowboy Morning breakfast and a suite hotel in their package while another visitor will sign up for the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Palo Duro Canyon State Park and a budget property in their package.
Many area attractions and hotels and motels are participating (see attached list). The days of set packages, with everyone having the same itinerary, have been declining for years, according to Jutta Matalka, Director of Tourism for the Amarillo CVC. These individual, customized packages are really the norm in todays travel environment. This partnership will benefit all participating members of the local tourism industry. The staff at Texas Legacies is trained to listen to customer requests and match them with offerings in this market. They may recommend the Don Harrington Discovery Center & Space Theater to a family of four while pairing a retired couple with museums and scenic opportunities. While Texas Legacies is performed only in the summer, they are marketing these travel packages year round. So a consumer will be able to get travel information and reservations in January as well as June. In fact, we may sell a package that doesnt include Texas Legacies, Blaine Bertrand, president of Texas Legacies, said. But that is all right. This is a classic win-win situation that helps all Amarillo/Canyon attractions and hotels and all area visitors.
