Almohalla 51

Spain, 11 October 2016: Award-winning B&B Almohalla 51 (00 34 952 716 370; almohalla51.com) has set guests the challenge of hiking to the summit of Mulhacén, the highest mountain in the Iberian peninsula, on an exciting new activity break for 2017.

An English-speaking professional guide will lead guests to the peak, which at 3,482 metres is the highest in Europe outside the Alps and Caucasus. Those attempting the tough yet straightforward ascent will be rewarded with possible sightings of Ibex and fabulous views across the roof of the Sierra Nevada.

Climbing Mulhacén is just one of a range of thrilling pursuits on offer in the new break, Andalucian Adventures, which also includes canyoning in the Guadalmina river, abseiling and climbing at La Cueva de las Grajas, caving in the Hoyo Conique system, and scaling the iron cables of the Via Ferrata at the famous gorge at Ronda. The activities, which range from two hours in length to a whole day trip, can be tailored to suit all levels of proficiency, for two to 10 participants, and will be available from spring to autumn.

The standard four-night break at Almohalla 51 starts at €300 (£260) per person, based on two sharing a standard room, and includes B&B accommodation, a choice of two activities, return transfers to the activity sites, private guides and full insurance. Depending on the activity, time and destination, a stop at a local restaurant can be included. Tailored packages featuring more pursuits are available on request. The break is available from 3 March to 19 November 2017 (excluding Easter, 11-17 April, inclusive). All activities are subject to weather conditions, so only the room rate will be charged in the event of cancellation of an activity.

More about Almohalla 51

Almohalla 51 – which has appeared in TripAdvisor's Top 20 Best B&Bs in Spain for the past three years – is a five-room guesthouse set across two renovated townhouses. Owners David Matthews and Myles Rainford employed the help of local craftsmen to restore a sense of traditional elegance to the re-imagined space, with whitewashed walls, exposed wooden beams and stone-tiled floors, adding modern touches such as the sleek, contemporary bathrooms in each of the suites.

Guests also have access to comfortable communal areas, one with a woodburning stove, as well as shaded patios. One terrace has been put to use as a sunny setting for the fresh breakfasts of local produce, as well as a romantic spot for sundowners. The upper terrace has a pool with a sun terrace positioned to make the most of the views across the town to the surrounding countryside.

Notes to editors:

David Matthews and Myles Rainford, who are originally from London, opened Almohalla 51 in their adopted home of Spain in summer 2012. With backgrounds in travel and marketing, but with no experience of running a hotel or a business, they decided to turn their hands to creating stylish, child-free lodgings that would also deliver the high standards of service and hospitality they had come to expect on their extensive travels around the world.
