Passionate environmentalist and founder of All Retreats Dr Rick Fenny has invested almost $2 million into his All Retreats properties as a move towards more ecologically sustainable tourism practices.

Dr Fenny said All Retreats is a proudly eco-friendly company that utilises innovative design and the latest solar technologies to operate efficiently and with minimum impact on the natural environment.

“In my opinion, every business should have its own solar power installation,” Dr Fenny said.

“Businesses need to invest in these practices now to ensure sustainability in the future,” he said.
 

All Retreats incorporates a range of tourism properties in Western Australia including Maitraya Luxury Private Retreat, Ocean Park Aquarium and Carbla Station.

Ocean Park Aquarium in Shark Bay, Western Australia is powered by one of the state’s largest privately owned solar technology systems.
 

“The installation at Ocean Park generates 273 kilowatt hours of electricity per day, which is enough to power 20 suburban homes” Dr Fenny said.
 

Dr Fenny says Ocean Park adopts a number of other ecologically sustainable initiatives including:

• • Desalination of seawater through a reverse osmosis unit powered by the solar system
  • Collection and storage of rainwater to augment the desalinated water
  • Use of a windmill to prime pumps and also act as a giant vacuum cleaner of display ponds
  • Use of energy efficient fridges and freezers that consume 65% less power than conventional units
  • Technologically efficient pumps and filters that reduce energy use.

Dr Fenny’s other All Retreats property – Maitraya Luxury Private Retreat in Albany, Western Australia – also operates with the environment in mind.

“Maitraya is a world class retreat in one of the most beautiful natural locations in the world. It is my responsibility to protect it in any way I can,” said Dr Fenny.

“The solar power panels at Maitraya provide power to all of the appliances in the residence, so guests can enjoy complete luxury without feeling guilty about the impact they are having on the environment,” he said.

“As a luxury retreat Maitraya is very unique in that way,” he said.
