Air New Zealand Reports A Favourable Canadian Outlook In 2004

Air New Zealand

Los Angeles - Air New Zealand has experienced steady revenue growth out of the Canadian market compared with 2003, when SARS worries and the country's economic difficulties softened travel to New Zealand. Air New Zealand is pleased with the growth, which has particularly improved this year out of the Alberta and Ontario markets. Canadian visitor arrivals to New Zealand are up by 2.4 percent, compared to 2003. The airline is looking forward to an increase in summer travel from North America to New Zealand with greater air capacity and new gateways, such as the thrice-weekly non-stop service between Los Angeles and Christchurch, in New Zealand's South Island.

In addition, Air New Zealand is pleased to announce its participation in the International Airline Program (IAP) agreement for American Express 2 for 1 in Canada, whereby Canadian American Express Platinum cardholders who purchase one ticket on Air New Zealand with their card will receive an additional ticket for no charge. Air New Zealand is the first carrier to be included in this program that does not fly directly out of Canada. The airline offers connections from Canadian cities with Star Alliance partner Air Canada.

As of November 2, Air New Zealand now offers non-stop service between Los Angeles and Christchurch, departing thrice weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Star Alliance partner Air Canada provides connections from many Canadian cities. This new service cuts down on travel time for passengers from North America travelling to the South Island, as they no longer have to fly to Auckland on the country's North Island, then transit southbound to Christchurch. Passengers on these and all Air New Zealand flights are eligible to earn and redeem Aeroplan points from Air Canada.

Air New Zealand also offers thrice weekly, non-stop service from San Francisco to Auckland, code-sharing with Air Canada. This service was introduced on June 30, and offers Canadian travellers another U.S. gateway for their New Zealand travel. The San Francisco-Auckland non-stop runs on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
