Afterpay's Touch Ventures Backed Play Travel Uses Post Covid Travel Sentiment to Launch Aussie Bucket List Range to Hero a Holiday at Home

[Media Release, Thursday 16th September]: Today, Play Travel officially launches a range of bucket list holidays, promoting the 15 ultimate bucket list experiences around Australia that received the most excitement in a recent travel sentiment survey. Conducted in September 2021, this survey of around 1,000 Aussie soon-to-be travellers focused on where Aussies want to travel next and why. Results were used to answer the burning question of where Aussies will travel first, with results outlined below. 

Afterpay's Touch Ventures backed travel start up, Play Travel, offers a range of hotels, deals, tours and activities around Australia (and soon to be the world). These survey findings formed the basis of the Aussie bucket list holiday selection for their upcoming campaign encouraging Aussies to explore the wonders of Australia.

Results: Aussie travel sentiment survey

Overall, survey results found that Aussies are most looking forward to a holiday in Queensland with family. Followed by a range of exciting experiences all around Australia. Key takeaways are outlined below:  

  • 53% of Aussies want to travel to Queensland first, followed by 10.2% to NSW and 10% to WA. Tasmania and the NT follow closely behind with 8% each.
  • Most Aussies want their first trip to be with their family, at 50%. Travelling with a partner was the next popular at 34%, then friends at 10% and 6% opted for their first trip to be solo.
  • Of all Play Travel bucket list items, Aussies are most excited to visit the Great Barrier Reef. Followed by Uluru, the Daintree Rainforest, Kakadu Rainforest and Rottnest Island.
  • 33% of Aussies are most excited for a beach holiday, followed by 32% wanting a family holiday and 24% wanting a road trip.
