As the popularity of wallet-combusting yoga retreats in luxury, snooty resorts decline, people booking affordable solo and group retreats in exotic, unique destinations have soared. One spot enjoying a surge in yoga vacation bookings is the The Dominican Tree House Village. And for good reason.
Tl:dr? Just watch the video.
Located on the Dominican Republic's northeast Peninsula de Samana, The Dominican Tree House Village is quickly making a name for itself as a yoga retreat for both property buy-out groups and individuals. It has been open for about three years and they have a perfect 5/5 rating on TripAdvisor with 300 reviews at the time of writing.
The village has 22 rooms (sleeps 44 people) and several all-inclusive packages including meals, tours, bikes, and airport transfers. The all-inclusive amenities include yoga classes (of course), pool, and, by all accounts, the best jungle zip-line in the country. Their target audiences are people interested in green travel, adventure travel, yoga travel and destination weddings.
Between yoga sessions and instruction, guests can indulge in myriad activities. One can bike to the quiet and tranquil local beach, via a stop at the local waterfall to brave the rope swing. Then join a pickup game of volleyball with the locals or explore the rivers and ocean caves nearby. Evenings involve games, a fire pit, hammocks and usually several trips to the bar for rum drinks. Full-day tours are also available.
The growing trend of yoga vacations in the Dominican Republic is likely due to it being the most geographically diverse, eco-driven destination in the Caribbean, and gratifyingly easy to reach with direct flights from New York, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis (seasonal), Dallas (seasonal), Toronto, Montreal, Mexico City, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, London Gatwick, Vienna, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich (seasonal), Zurich and Moscow among others.
