Care to ascend the legendary cliffs of the Superstition Mountains? Or, is head-to-head jet fighter combat more your style? How about rustling up desert dust on a heart-racing cattle drive? If you are seeking a full-throttle experience on your next holiday, Mesa, Arizona has some of the most talked-about adventures one can have in the Grand Canyon State.

Rise Up in a Sunset Hot Air Balloon: There is nothing quite like the feeling of floating on cloud nine. Experience exhilaration and serenity all at once accompanied by breath-taking views from 5,000 feet in the air when you take flight in a hot-air balloon above the stunning Sonoran Desert. Mesa has two outfitters, Hot Air Expeditions and Rainbow Ryders, that take visitors up, up and away.

Take Flight at the Commemorative Air Force Museum: Buckle up for the ultimate aerial experience on a vintage military warbird. Take part in living history on a ride of a lifetime on planes that have seen real life combat during World War II. Aircraft options vary but the most popular flight by far is on the B-17 Flying Fortress, the Sentimental Journey. Open cockpit tours are also available for visitors not as keen to taking to the skies.

Fighter Combat International: Sign up for an air-to-air combat mission that gives you the opportunity to live the dream of learning to be a fighter pilot without committing to years of military service. Pre-flight drills and instruction teaches guests the basics of modern air combat maneuvering, both offensive and defensive, and it's followed with an actual combat flight in the sky.

Flatiron Hike in the Superstition Mountains: Feel on top of the world with one of the most rewarding full-day hikes in the Superstition Wilderness. The demanding nature of this natural staircase of a hike is worth the spectacular views from the peak. Along the way you will see majestic rock formations, a slick rock basin (and possible waterfall), and feel the burn of a rigorous workout.

Fort McDowell Adventures Cattle Drive: When visiting the Southwest, Fort McDowell Adventures has a true Wild West adventure waiting for you. The 'City Slicker Cattle Drive' is the ultimate chance to be a cowboy as you herd cows through the reservation along the Verde River. Time to saddle up and round up them dogies!
