ACE Cultural Tours launches new 2020 music tours to Bergen International Festival & Lammermuir Music Festival
ACE Cultural Tours is delighted to offer two brand new tours to the Bergen International Festival in Norway and Lammermuir Music Festival in Scotland as part of their varied music tours collection for 2020.
Bergen International Festival
May 19 – 26, 2020 with Nicholas Wearne | £3165
Bergen is notable within musical history as the birthplace of the leading Romantic composer and pianist Edvard Grieg. The house in Troldhaugen where he lived and composed many of his best-known works is now a museum and will form one of the tour's visits. Immersion into Bergen's artistic atmosphere also includes a guided tour of the KODE 3 collection of Edvard Munch's artworks.
Set within this context of prolific music and art, the famously imaginative Bergen International Festival features prominent international artists as well as renowned Norwegian musicians. In the words of the festival's Artistic Director Anders Beyer, “for almost seven decades, the Bergen International Festival has set human minds in motion with art's wild and sprawling dreamscapes… through music, theatre and dance, the festival has celebrated and rattled the city, and sought new answers to old questions”. The tour is structured around a fantastic programme including French early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants, award-winning Norwegian violinist Miriam Helms Ålien, and Icelandic pianist Vikingur Ólafsson, acclaimed internationally for his passionate and intelligent interpretations. The final evening performance attended on the tour includes works by Widmann, Grieg and Brahms with the Bergan Philharmonic Orchestra under celebrated English conductor Edward Gardner.

Lammermuir Music Festival
September 14 – 21, 2020 with Alberto Massimo | £1995
The Lammermuir Music Festival has become one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the classical music calendar, winning the Royal Philharmonic Society's 'Best UK Classical Music Festival' accolade in 2017 as well as acclaim from The Guardianand the BBC Music Magazine.
New ACE Tour Director and Musical Director of the Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra, Alberto Massimo says: “I have attended the festival since its inception ten years ago, and have seen it grow into an unmissable event in the Scottish musical calendar. The programme is always interesting, performed by excellent and enthusiastic musicians who create a special atmosphere and feeling with the audience.”
Drawing on its relationships with some of Scotland's leading ensembles – as well as providing a stage to internationally renowned musicians – the festival has earned a reputation for building truly excellent musical programmes in interaction with a range of fascinating and atmospheric historical buildings. It also draws inspiration from its natural setting, particularly the breath-taking Lammermuir Hills, which are steeped in a history of their own.
