Accor hotels and Central Singapore CDC team up to entertain the folks from �Bright Homes�

9 December 2009, Today Accor hotels in Singapore (Novotel Clarke Quay, Grand Mercure Roxy and ibis Singapore on Bencoolen) in association with the Central Singapore Community Development Council (CS CDC), held a lunch for over 200 residents of the CSCDC Bright Homes programme. Bright Homes is a programme supporting low income senior citizens living in the Central Singapore District.

The buffet lunch held at Novotel Clarke Quay was a cooperative effort of the three Accor hotels in Singapore with 30 employees donating their time to stage the event.

Kevin Bossino � General Manager of Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel said �All of the over 200 guests in attendance seemed to have great time and enjoyed the lunch. It was rewarding to see these people come together for the lunch and interact with other and many of our young staff from our hotels. We are grateful to our employees that have contributed their time and effort in enabling this lunch to take place as well as the co-ordination of the CDC in bringing the residents together�

December 9, 2009 was designated by Accor as International Solidarity Day � where Accor Hotels around the world engage their communities to help out in various ways. Accor today has 4,000 hotels throughout the world, resulting in 4,000 different ways to help people living in the communities where we operate.

Mdm Pang Kim Lan, 75 years old from Chin Swee Road who went on a stage to sing 2 songs said �I am happy to be invited and grateful to the organisers for this event. The food was good and the service was excellent! All of us had a great time.�

In addition to co-ordinating the lunch, the hotels also gave out a red packet to each of the attendees.

Ms Angeline Cheong, Deputy General Manager of Central Singapore CDC said �We are glad that our elderly residents have enjoyed a fabulous lunch and are entertained by the various performances put up by the staff of Accor hotels. We thank them for helping to spread the holiday cheer to our residents. This generous gesture means a lot to the seniors."

Central Singapore Community Development Council Bright Homes Programme 2009 The programme is designed to offer a structured volunteer platform for volunteer groups and community partners interested in collaborating with Central Singapore CDC (CS CDC) to assist in meeting the home-based needs of lower income seniors who live in 1-2 room rental units. This is especially important for Central Singapore District, which has the highest concentration of seniors (about 34% as compared to the National Average of 13%). 65 % of all rental blocks are also within the district. Volunteers groups from various sectors of our society are recruited to initiate monthly activities to address the needs of seniors, identified as financial, physical, psychological, social, personal and home safety needs. These activities can vary from outings, food distribution and exercises to health screenings, block parties and handicraft sessions.
