Accor Confident in WA Hotel Performance Despite Global Volatility

Accor

Western Australia's largest hotel operator, Accor, has expressed confidence in the State's tourism future despite the ongoing Middle East conflict and disruptions to fuel supplies.

Accor currently operates 27 hotels in Western Australia.

Lifestyle hotels arrive in Western Australia with Ennismore

Ennismore – the fastest-growing lifestyle hospitality company in which Accor owns a majority share - made its Western Australian debut last month with the opening of HYDE Perth.

The 121-room hotel on Pier Street marks the first purpose-built HYDE property globally and introduces Ennismore's signature 'festival vibe' to the local market, blending music, art, culture and wellness. Inspired by the brand's origins in the early 2000s Los Angeles club scene, the hotel brings an energetic yet distinctly Australian sensibility to Perth.

Futuristic new Pullman Perth Airport

Accor's newest hotel development is targeted for commencement later this year at Perth Airport. Pullman Perth Airport will be the first hotel accommodation located at the airport, expanding Accor's already well-established network of airport hotels around Australia.

The 240-room hotel, which is being developed by Skyfields by Perth Airport, will provide world-class accommodation located immediately adjacent to the airport's major terminals, featuring an aerodynamic exterior design with metal fins that echo aircraft panels. The curved shape and rooftop bar and pool area will maximise guest views of the airfield and the Perth city skyline.

Accor's Chief Operating Officer in the Pacific region, Adrian Williams, said: “The establishment of an upscale Pullman next to the terminals would help Perth Airport continue its growth momentum.”

Last year, Perth Airport attracted a record 18 million passengers, representing 6.6% growth year on year, with international traffic climbing 12.5% to a new high, while domestic volumes increased 4.2%.

Strong Asia Pacific focus to insulate Perth's tourism sector

Mr. Williams indicated that despite the Middle East conflict, the outlook for international arrivals to Perth remained encouraging, supported by a pipeline of new and expanded air services.

These include new Qantas direct services from Auckland and Johannesburg, alongside increased and strengthened connectivity from key markets including Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Tokyo.

“The emphasis on expansion of direct services from Asia and the Pacific is great news for Perth's hotel sector and will help our hotels build on the substantial gains from these markets over the past year,” said Mr Williams.

“Our hotels recorded 84.2% growth from China for the year to March 2026, the rest of Asia grew 19.8%, and the Pacific 10.9%.

“We may not be able to match the stellar growth of the Northern European market (29.9%) in the year ahead, but with more capacity coming from Asian hubs, we are still expecting growth.

“Perth is particularly well placed to sustain growth. Last year, STR's data showed Perth's city hotels achieved an average occupancy rate of 81.2% for 2025, with figures above 85% recorded for extended periods throughout the year, compared with the national average of 73.2%.

“Accor's strength across most market segments saw our hotels outperform the city average occupancy, according to STR data, and with our brands' strong presence in Asia, we are confident of maintaining our position as market leaders,” he added.

WA Government's diesel stock boost positive for regional tourism

“Undoubtedly, the conflict in the Middle East and resulting fuel pressures have impacted our Western Australia hotels over the past two months, particularly in regional areas due to the issues around fuel availability and pricing.

“This is why we applaud Premier Roger Cook's recent announcement to purchase and store four million litres of diesel in the Kimberley. This will provide greater confidence for tourism operators in the north ahead of the peak tourism season.

“Overall, though, we believe Perth and Western Australia are well placed to withstand the pressures arising from the conflict in the Middle East.

“We are also very excited to be an integral part of the multi-billion-dollar One Airport infrastructure program which will elevate the arrival experience and establish a vibrant airport precinct for businesses and visitors to the city,” said Mr Williams.

Event-led tourism adds critical leisure balance for Perth hotel market

“Event-led demand continues to drive strong performance for our hotels, demonstrated by near capacity hotel occupancies in central Perth for the recent Ed Sheeran, OneRepublic, Good Charlotte and Lorde concerts.

“Sport also continues to drive leisure occupancies. Following the sell-out crowds for the Ashes Test in November, Perth will host Rugby League World Cup matches later in the year, and AFL and NRL continue to attract interstate and regional visitation.

“Perth has one of the most integrated major events strategies in Australia involving Tourism WA, stadium operators, airlines, hotels and government, and this strategy has attracted events that otherwise may not have come to Perth. It is estimated to deliver $3.48 in economic benefit for every dollar invested.

“Travel remains a massive priority for most Australians, and we anticipate that if the current situation does impact travel decisions, we may see some West Australians substituting overseas or interstate travel for local travel. This will benefit lifestyle hotels such as HYDE, which are designed for leisure stays that integrate the city's energetic entertainment, dining and arts scene.”

Welcome with Pride

Accor's commitment to recognising diversity is reflected in Novotel Perth Murray Street being the first of almost 30 Accor hotels in Australia to be Welcome with Pride certified. Perth will host the 2030 Pride Games, and Accor is working towards having all hotels certified by the time of the Games.

Accor continues to strengthen its presence across the Pacific region, reinforcing its position as the leading hotel group in Australia. With a growing portfolio of 370+ hotels, resorts and extended-stay properties across the country, the Group is accelerating development in key urban and leisure destinations, supported by strong owner partnerships and a robust pipeline.
