Accommodation Nearly Sold Out for Iceland This Summer

ACE Cultural Tours

If you are planning a trip to Iceland in 2016, you may find accommodation is in short supply.

Icelandreview.com has reported that, if visitor numbers to Iceland continue to soar, there may not be beds for everyone, with some people potentially forced to cancel their trips. Whilst in 2000 there were approximately 300,000 tourists (about the size of Iceland's population) by 2010 there were about half a million, and the most recent figures for 2015 put the number at over a million.

There is still time to ensure your trip to Iceland this summer. ACE Cultural Tours still has spaces remaining on our tour Iceland: Forces of Nature. Beginning in Akureyri, make an eastern circuit around Iceland's famous Ring Road before finishing in Reykjavik. Along the way, expert leader and natural historian Harriet Allen will uncover the country's austere beauty, its singular geology, and its incredible wildlife.

Iceland: Forces of Nature

July 31 – August 10, 2016; £3850

Highlights of the tour include a boat trip into Skjálfandi Bay, where minke and humpback whales are frequent visitors, and the 'lunar' landscapes surrounding Lake Mývatn. Journeying around the spectacular southern edge of the Vatnajökull glacier, we make a stop at the otherworldly Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where luminous blue icebergs drift across the lake. We shall also take a boat trip to the largely uninhabited Westman Islands, where seabirds nest in their millions among the cliffs and grassy ledges, before arriving in Reykjavik via the famous 'Golden Circle': Gullfoss, Geysir, and Thingvellir.
