Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) is to exhibit at the 42nd London Book Fair in Earls Court (15-17 April 2013), to raise awareness of the business opportunities in the emirate for international publishers.
TCA Abu Dhabi will promote its publishing and book-related initiatives, including Abu Dhabi International Book Fair; the emirate's National Library; the Qalam project to develop young Emirati talent, and the Kalima Project for Translation.
At the London Book Fair, visitors will also be able to discover the emirate's dazzling and ever-expanding range of tourism attractions, including Yas Water world Abu Dhabi - the Arabian Gulf's largest waterpark; Ferrari World Abu Dhabi - the world's largest indoor theme park and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, recently named, by Trip Advisor, as one of the world's most talked about attractions. Stand goers can collect an official visitor guide and a flyer of the top 10 things to do in Abu Dhabi, and participate in giveaways and promotions.
The 23rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) takes place in Abu Dhabi between 24-29 April 2013 and an ADIBF team member will be at the London Book Fair to highlight the work of internationally-translated Emirati authors as well as the business and panels being organised at this year's ADIBF. ADIBF team members will be in London to meet trade partners and exhibitors and facilitate closer co-operation between Arab and international publishers.
ADIBF is the Middle East and North Africa's fastest growing book fair. Developing under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, ADIBF is a major business initiative, which is aimed at developing the book and publishing industry and promoting reading in Abu Dhabi and the neighbouring Arab emirates.
Over 500,000 titles are expected at this year's ADIBF, including cultural, intellectual and commercial books in over 30 languages. Over 100 Emirati, Arab and international authors and poets will be featured at this year's event including Sheikha Khulood Al Mualla, from the Fujairah royal family, Noura Al Nouman, Ali Abul Rish and Amin Diban.
The fair will feature a vibrant Illustrators' Corner highlighting the visual content critical to the growth of the publishing industry; with special focus on children's books. The Illustrators' Corner will feature artists from Spain, Switzerland, UAE, Syria and Malaysia.
Digital publishing is critical to the industry's development and to keep pace with cutting edge publishing trends. This has been endorsed at the ADIBF eZone with growing interest from digital book publishers and trend setters from the ePublishing industry - reflecting the growth of digital publishing and the increased popularity of eBooks. Once again, the eZone will feature seminars on cutting edge issues at the crossroads of publishing and technology. This year the eZone will host companies from US, Germany, Spain, Greece the UAE, Jordan and India.
ADIBF is set for a record-breaking showing this April, backed by exhibition space that's expanded 15% on last year.
His Excellency Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General, TCA Abu Dhabi, said: "This year's fair growth reinforces the reputation and development of Abu Dhabi as a global centre for arts and culture. ADIBF is an outstanding platform for Arab and international publishers and renowned authors to demonstrate their talents and capabilities to a highly educated and receptive audience. Visitors will have rare opportunities to interact closely with reputed authors and to meet fresh creative talent and publications from across the world.
"The event's popularity and reputation is demonstrated by the considerable waiting list of exhibitors wishing to participate. We are experiencing a renaissance in publishing and a growth in Arab authorship, coupled with an expansion in literature and publishing in all its forms, both traditional and online."
