AIRCRAFT HAND LUGGAGE In the 6 April issue of ABTA Today, we advised Members of the industry recommendations for aircraft hand luggage - a maximum length of 22" (56 cm), a width of 18" (45 cm) and a depth of 10" (25 cm) but the total measurement (length, plus width, plus depth) should not exceed 45" (115 cm). These dimensions include wheels, handles, and side pockets. Please note that all the BAA airports will be phasing in these measurements from 5 July and passengers could be sent back to their airline check-in to check in their luggage should it exceed these measurements. If you have any queries about this, please contact BAA on 020 8745 7224.
THE ABTA TRAVEL CONVENTION This year's ABTA Travel Convention will be held in Marbella from 27-29 November 2006. As in 2005, the Convention will contain a series of learn day sessions. To help us co-ordinate a cutting edge programme, we're once again asking Members for their ideas and assistance. As with the hot zone of 2005, the learn day sessions this year will be available for sponsorship. Designed to involve audience participation, the sessions will involve a number of companies discussing specific topics that may affect travel organisations in the future. If you'd like to submit a proposal for this year's learn day sessions, please contact Colin Yonge (cyonge@abta.co.uk) on 020 7307 1979. Initial ideas need to be submitted by 3 July 2006. For further information about this year's Convention, see www.theabtatravelconvention.com

AIRPORT ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH (AER) JCDecaux Airport have recently completed airport ethnographic research, which studied the experiences of airport passengers at Heathrow and Stansted Airports. Using ethnographic methods, passengers were observed in each of the individual areas of the airport to study their awareness of advertising. Their heightened alertness, that was found by monitoring pulse rate, showed increased awareness of different advertising types ranging from the simple and impactful to the complex and interactive. These findings show the dynamism of the airport is a highly effective media environment like no other, with implications for airport planning and advertising design.
