ABTA

A WEEK AT ABTA Last weeks ECTAA meeting in Germany which I attended provided an excellent opportunity for us to make very strong representations about the inequalities and confusion arising from the current state of the Package Travel Regulations, which act against our Members interests and confuse our customers. We're meeting up with the Captive Insurance Board in Guernsey this week to discuss the terms of our renewal of the Travel Agents Bond Replacement Scheme and Non-Licensable shortfall policy. Both have been running very successfully for a number of years, shoring up ABTAs financial promise at very reasonable rates for Members. As you'll know our Convention has been moved to Marbella and our thanks to the Spanish authorities for their great support. I look forward to seeing you there and was pleased to see that only one early-booked delegate for Athens cant now make it to Spain. Mark Tanzer, Chief Executive

THE ABTA TRAVEL CONVENTION We're delighted to announce some of the key speakers confirmed for the ABTA Travel Convention in Marbella, 27-29 November 2006. EU-US AGREEMENT ON DATA TRANSFER The European Court of Justice delivered a judgement on 30 May 2006 blocking the transfer of PNR (Passenger Name Record) data to the US authorities effective 30 September 2006. It's anticipated that a solution will be found to this before the deadline. In the meantime, please note that this only affects PNR data and doesn't affect APIS data (passport details, country of residence, first night address) which agents are asked to continue to provide to the airlines. If you have any queries about this, please contact the Members Information line (membersinfo@abta.co.uk) on 0845 177 ABTA (2282).
