AAA Show Your Card & Save Program Adds Japan To List Of Foreign Partners; Sets New Record For Annual Savings

AAA

AAAs Show Your Card & Save, a discount purchasing program for AAA members, today announced the nations largest motor club has added the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) to its list of foreign automobile clubs offering select AAA member benefits. The addition of JAF allows AAA members who travel to Japan to receive discounts from merchants in that country, similar to what they receive in the United States. Through a reciprocal agreement, JAF members traveling in the U.S. also can take advantage of discounts AAA members enjoy in this country. JAF is the second Asian auto club to enter into such an agreement; AAA currently has an agreement with the Korean Automobile Association in South Korea.

AAA today also announced that its members saved a record $435 million in 2003 on goods and services as varied as hotel rooms, watches, restaurants and sneakers. That is an increase of nearly 10 percent over last year. According to AAA, the number of member transactions grew to 16.5 million last year, up 14.6 percent from 2002.

The interest expressed by foreign auto clubs and the increasing level of savings clearly illustrate the value of AAA Show Your Card & Save both in the U.S. and around the world, said Tom Wilt, managing director, AAA Partnership Programs. Broadening the program to include foreign auto clubs gives our members more purchasing power while traveling abroad.

Internationally, more than 45 automobile/touring clubs provide membership card-based savings to members visiting the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and 25 European countries affiliated under ARC Europe.

Conceived as a way to offer special values to AAA members when traveling, SYC&S now offers more than 82,000 merchant locations in the U.S. Member discounts is the third most popular reason for membership renewal, according to AAA research.

Many members find they can save the cost of their membership through discounts on items they buy all year long, said Wilt.

Reasons for the expanded use of the SYC&S program include the addition of several new savings partners in 2003 including AAA Prescription Savings, Gateway, Barnes & Noble.com, Hickory Farms, Payless ShoeSource, Starwood Hotels, and BostonCoach. In addition, the range of travel money products has been expanded to include foreign currency and prepaid cards available in branch offices and online.

Members can find participating merchants through their local club or www.aaa.com. In addition to the 37 merchants who participate nationwide, there are 4,377 local partners.

As North Americas largest motoring and leisure travel organization, AAA provides nearly 47 million members with travel, insurance, financial and automotive-related services. Since its founding in 1902, the not-for-profit, fully tax-paying AAA has been a leader and advocate for the safety and security of all travelers.
