A World-Class Golf Course in Tropical Paradise

Laucala Island, Fiji

While the resort on Laucala Island was being built, the main aim was to preserve the original character of the island. Scotsman David McLay Kidd, designer of the 18-hole championship golf course found this task a particular challenge. The result is a beautiful golf course set against the mountain meandering through natural vegetation, which has been carefully integrated into the old coconut plantation area.  Undulating fairways, and challenging greens with strategic bunkers ensure a wonderful balance for both experienced and less accomplished players. The sparkling tides of the Pacific Ocean and natural rock formations offer spectacular views from some of the elevated tees.  The par 72 layout offers a variety of tee box options, which create the perfect balance for golfers of all skill levels - challenging to the more accomplished player, yet fun and user friendly for those who are new to the game.

PGA professionals are available to assist golfing guests.  The course has been designed to rival international standards, as McLay Kidd was once chosen to design the 7th hole at the home of golf, the legendary St. Andrews in Scotland.

Course Facts

From the “Volcano” tees, the course measures 20,489 ft in length, the “Palm” tees offer great balance at 18,461 ft, and the “Coral” tees are the ideal start at 15,138 ft.  The unique combination of grass was used to achieve varied playing surfaces.  The tees and greens have been planted with a hybrid Bermuda grass called Novatek, providing smooth putting surfaces all year round, and the fairways are seeded with Zoysia Japonica, a strand of grass which is ideally suited to the warm tropical climate of Fiji.

It is truly remarkable to see the creation of the golf course on such a remote piece of land whilst integrating the mountain, sea and natural island vegetation.  Situated on the turquoise waters edge sits arguably the most picturesque Halfway House in the world. Here golfers can enjoy a well-deserved rest after a challenging front nine.  Guests can enjoy a healthy snack and refreshing drink whilst indulging in the breath-taking panoramic views of Satokoro Bay - the ideal way to rejuvenate body and mind before taking on the back nine.

There is no reason to feel rushed when playing golf at Laucala.  Adequate space has been allocated between tee times to ensure that golfers feel as though they have the entire golf course to themselves.  Golf Carts are available and recommended especially in the warm weather.  The golf course is fairly undulating, so walking is difficult, but also an option.  The par-5 12th hole could be considered the signature hole, with the green extending onto the beach, high tide will mean “wet feet” with the tide determining whether you are able to play your ball should you miss your approach shot to the right of the green.

The Clubhouse compliments the golfing experience with a cocktail bar, changing facilities, a fully stocked golf shop, golf clubs for those who travel without, a practice facility and most importantly friendly and efficient staff.  The tennis courts are in close proximity to the clubhouse for a little more activity and fun.  The quiet surroundings of the Practice Facility provide an ideal platform for aspiring golfers to get into the game in an unintimidating environment, whilst the more accomplished players have the opportunity to hone their skills.

PGA professionals are on site to ensure all golfing needs are taken care of, whether it is lessons or joining guests for a round of golf.  The golf shop is stocked with the latest fashion and is sure to have something for everyone, for those who wish to travel without their clubs to the latest technology in golf clubs, which are available for use.

Laucala Island also offers clubs for kids (from 7 years old), right or left handed guests (male and female), regular and stiff shafts. Guests will only have to pay for apparel, balls and gloves if they need to take them from the Golf Club house.
