A former fishing village, Spinguera was abandoned due to a severe drought until Italian-born Larissa Lazzari and local artisans spent four years restoring the buildings. Perfectly integrated into the landscape, the hotel with its stylish stone houses has a zero-carbon footprint thanks to solar and wind power, as well as goats and chickens providing cheese and eggs for the restaurant.

Reached by a 4x4 journey along the old riverbed, expect wonderful views of the wild Atlantic with no artificial light for dozens of miles and no buildings to interrupt the scenery.
