The Ampersand Hotel Book Club & Cocktails 04 Oct 2013
A Series Of Author Readings & Bespoke Cocktails At The Library, The Ampersand Hotel

The Ampersand Hotel

Spurred by reports of dwindling library numbers and the demise of the printed word, with the number of books borrowed from libraries down by almost 13 million in the last year alone,* The Ampersand Hotel will champion the humble book and book club by hosting a series of exclusive author events in the hotel’s library. Throughout October and November in South Kensington, guests can sip on bespoke cocktails while enjoying readings from esteemed authors Anne Zouroudi and Rosa Rankin-Gee.

THE LIBRARY

Enter The Library on the lower ground floor of The Ampersand Hotel and instantly relax in its luxurious surroundings accented with splashes of emerald green, regal armchairs made for long afternoons spent reading and wooden bookcases lined with the hotel’s specially curated collection of books.

On the evening of 7
th October 2013, let Anne Zouroudi transport you to Greece as she reads from The Feast of Artemis. In this captivating murder mystery follow a bitter trail through the olive groves of Dendra and uncover a dark deed brought to light by the sin of gluttony. Inspired by the novel’s backdrop; the annual olive festival, Apero’s talented head bartenders have created the ‘Dendra Martini’, giving the Dirty Martini a Mediterranean twist with Metaxa, olive juice, Gin Mare and rosemary.

The second evening on 4
th November 2013 offers an exclusive preview of Rosa Rankin-Gee’s debut novel Kings Of Sark. Prior to its launch on 7th November 2013, Rosa will treat guests to a reading of her bewitching novel about complicated love, only children and missed opportunities. Be sure to try ‘La Coupé’, an enticing cocktail made with vodka, apple cider, absinthe and lemon juice, that takes inspiration from the novel’s enigmatic landscape.

Tickets for the readings, priced at £35, include one cocktail and a selection of delicate sweet and savoury canapés created by Pastry Chef Ji Sun Shin.

The final chapter of the evening involves a Q&A session and book signing.

Both nights will be hosted in partnership with The Girly Book Club, a social network with over 9,000 members. Erin Woodward, London Club Host, explains, “There is nothing better than reading a great book, except maybe having someone else to discuss it with. Book clubs offer a great social experience that incorporates our natural desire to gossip (harmlessly) while at the same time interact and grow friendships”.

THE AMPERSAND HOTEL

The Ampersand Hotel is the perfect backdrop for this literary celebration, as its unique concept is inspired by the capital’s renowned cultural district, including the world-famous museums of Natural History, Science and Victoria & Albert, as well as the Royal Albert Hall, all devoted to botany, music, geometry, ornithology and astronomy. These 5 themes are intricately incorporated throughout The Ampersand Hotel, including its Library, which is stocked with a great selection of literature examining these subjects.
