A Right Royal Visit - but What's the Rush?

Frontier Canada

Frontier Canada offers quality tailor made holidays to all the best parts of Canada both for couples and families.  Travelling to such remote spots as the Great Bear Forest and the Haida Gwaii is not suitable for very young children which is why Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be left in Victoria for some of the trip.  They will still have a great time as they will be able to enjoy the beaches, the parks and probably a boat trip around Victoria Harbour.

Frontier Canada has several wonderful holidays into the Great Bear Rainforest. A firm favourite is to fly into  Spirit Bear Lodge which is one of the only places in the world that you might see the elusive Kermode Bear.  Known as the Spirit Bear by the local Kitasoo people because of its ghostly white colour, the Kermode is actually a black bear with a recessive gene. Only 10% of bears are born with this gene so it is quite rare.  Aside from the bear viewing, guests are immersed in the local Kitasoo / Xaixais culture with visits to the Longhouse and ancient petroglyphs. For those clients who want to immerse themselves in the bears, Frontier Canada offers Bears, Bears and more Bears which visits the rainforest on both the mainland and the islands.

The Haida Gwaii is a special place indeed.  The archipelago is separated from Mainland BC by the treacherous Hecate Strait and has been inhabited  for around 13,000 years. Anthropologists have found links between the myths and rituals of the original people with the Koryaks, inhabitants of the Kamchatka Peninsula whose god was also the Raven, a key creature in the beliefs of the Haida. Discovered in 1787 by Captain George Dixon who's ship was called the Queen Charlotte named after George III's wife. Names still popular in today's Royal Family! The native population was literally decimated by smallpox brought in by explorers reducing the population from about 10,000 to 350 but the wildlife and vegetation survived and that along with the remains of the Haida are why people visit today.  Anthony Island and Ninstints with its evocative totem poles is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Not easy to get to, many people will visit on a small cruise ship such as the Island Explorer but young people such as William and Kate might well prefer Exploring the Haida Gwaii by kayak, camping and staying in a small lodge.

The Yukon is also on the couple's itinerary.  Frontier Canada has plenty of holidays exploring this vast territory.  The best option for a family holiday here would be in a motorhome as distances can be a bit daunting but for a couple we would recommend one of our fly drive holidays or perhaps for the adventurous a canoe trip down the Yukon River.

Frontier Canada can offer an extended version of William and Kate's trip which includes a few nights in Vancouver and Victoria, a 3-night/4-day stay at Spirit Bear Lodge, 4 nights in the Haida Gwaii, 2nights in the Okanagan Valley and a visit to the Yukon. Prices for this once-in-a-lifetime holiday including all international and domestic flights, car hire as required and full board stays at Sprit Bear Lodge and Haida House start from £6,936 per person.
